Today, Wael Morcos from Morcos Key is giving an Arabic Lettering workshop at the New York Times in NYC.
This is workshop #10 and will focus on Square Kufi, an abstract and playful way to get more familiar with the Arabic script.

We're excited to be in Moscow for our 9th episode of the Arabic Lettering Workshop Series, that will be part of Typomania Festival organized by Alexander Vasin.

The theme of this episode is Matryoshka or Russian Dolls where the participants will be making pieces of lettering within each other using Arabic as the main script and Armenian and Cyrillic as guest scripts.

The workshop will be lead by Kristyan Sarkis and Khajag Apelian

ALW Episode 8 will take place on May 11th in Beirut, part of UXBeirut This episode's theme is Arcade Game lettering and it will be lead by Wael Morcos and Khajag Apelian

ALW Episode 7 will take place on September 9th in Amsterdam as part of the event Arabic Type Fest organized by High On Type. This episode's theme is PROTEST lettering and it will be lead by Kristyan Sarkis and Lara Captan.

And here are the results of Episode 6. Designing lettering for book covers as well as reimagining the covers. This workshop was lead by Kristyan Sarkis in collaboration with Abjad Design.

We are very happy to announce our 5th episode of Arabic Lettering Workshops, with the theme of 3D letters, will be held in Cairo as part of the Granshan Conference taking place at AUC The American University in Cairo on the 26th of this month. For the occasion of ATypI 2016, and its 'convergence' theme, this episode was about Epigrams. Participants choose a culturally specific expression, word or statement from their own culture and made an expressive lettering piece of its equivalent or transliteration in Arabic, reflecting the meaning through the forms.

The third episode of the Arabic Lettering Workshop series is here! Pair words with emotions and see how malleable language can be! Through lectures and preparatory exercises, the participants will get to experiment with different sketching and drawing techniques using various tools, that will help them to ultimately develop their own piece of lettering.
