Catalytic synthesis of 9-cis-retinoids: mechanistic insights - Dalton Transactions (RSC Publishing) 22/08/2019

Two new papers are online! We use quantum chemical methods to explain product distributions in (photo)catalysed Z-isomerization of retinoids. This is collaboration with Palczewski Lab at UC Irvine.

Catalytic synthesis of 9-cis-retinoids: mechanistic insights - Dalton Transactions (RSC Publishing) The regioselective Z-isomerization of thermodynamically stable all-trans retinoids remains challenging, and ultimately limits the availability of much needed therapeutics for the treatment of human diseases. We present here a novel, straightforward approach for the catalytic Z-isomerization of retin...

Inception of electronic damage of matter by photon-driven post-ionization mechanisms “Probe-before-destroy” methodology permitted diffraction and imaging measurements of intact specimens using ultrabright but highly destructive X-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) pulses. The methodology takes advantage of XFEL pulses ultrashort duration to outrun the destructive nature of the X-ray...
