Since 1946, the symbol of Italian March 8 has become mimosa, which was proposed on the first post-war March 8 by the Italian Women's Council as a flower that characterizes women's holiday.

In France, since 1931, the Mimosa Festival has been held annually in the city of Mandelieu-la Napoule in the second half of February. The opening of the festival begins at the local church of Notre Dame de Mimosa, then the Mimosa Queen is chosen and the festival begins with fantastic street processions. Numerous processions of wagons decorated with mimosas pass through the streets of the city with music. The program of the holiday includes an exhibition-fair, parades, a costume ball.

Mimosa is collected and packaged, as a rule, at night, when it is cool, otherwise the acacia may lose its presentation. Each layer of branches is covered with paper so that they do not wrinkle, then boxes are packed and transported by trucks. One hundred kilograms can be stuffed into such a machine.

The main supplier of mimosa (silver acacia) to the Russian market is Abkhazia.
Mimosa in Abkhazia grows like a w**d, does not require special care. It is collected quite simply: they are cut with secateurs into medium and large branches, and then these branches are sold by weight. In the box that goes to Russia - 7 kilograms.

Silver acacia grows on the southeast coast of Australia, in southern Europe, South Africa, in the western United States, in the Azores and Madagascar.

Real mimosa - for example, bashful mimosa - is a completely different color - pink-lilac. You won’t find yellow inflorescences in her closest “relatives” either - mimosa flowers usually have a lilac tint. She does not give such luxurious inflorescences, although she belongs to the same family as the acacia. Although the Italian name for this plant sounds like Mimosa.

In fact, what we used to call “mimosa” is officially considered a silver acacia in the Russian classification.

There is another name for it - Australian acacia, it was brought from Australia.
