🔬 Strengthened the international reach of partner institutions.
We are grateful to every partner who made this possible — your dedication turned this ambitious vision into reality!
Conference and Workshop “Innovative Virtual Biomedical Laboratory Education”
From January 15 to 17, 2025, the Medical University of Lublin hosted the final conference of the project VIBES (Virtual Innovative Biomedical Education in Science), funded by the Erasmus+ program. The event, organized by the Universities of Lublin, Foggia, Oslo, Reykjavik, and Leuven, brought together academics, educators, and researchers from across Europe to share findings and perspectives on innovative teaching tools in biomedical education.
The conference focused on three main objectives: presenting the results of the VIBES project, including interactive virtual modules, standardized operating procedures, and teaching guides; exploring sustainable educational models that integrate virtual labs with traditional learning, building on lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic; and fostering networking among European institutions for future collaborations in scientific education.
A distinguished delegation of experts from VIBES partner institutions actively contributed to the conference, delivering high-level scientific and educational presentations. The sessions showcased key project outcomes, including interactive virtual modules, standardized operating procedures, and innovative teaching methodologies.
The conference underscored the potential of virtual tools in making biomedical education more accessible and effective. Organizers expressed great satisfaction with the outcomes, emphasizing that the developed materials provide a replicable model for diverse educational contexts. The strong collaboration among partner institutions reinforced the project's role in shaping the future of biomedical education in Europe.

Project Title: The Virtual Innovative Biomedical Education in Science - VIBES
Project duration: 01/02/2022 – 31/01/2025
Number of partners: 5 (Beneficiary: Uniwersytet Medyczny w Lublinie Polska, University of Foggia, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Universitetet I Oslo, Haskolinn I Reykjavik)
Funding: This project is funded under the Erasmus+ Key Action 2: Cooperation among organisations and institutions.
Project Number: 2021-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000027611
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The key objective of the project is the development of a platform that would, in the educationally unstable times, provide students and teaching professionals with tools to maintain the high standards of the practical training. It is in line with the objectives set by the European Commission in the Education and Training Program. Specifically, the VIBES will contribute to the establishment of innovative European educational and scientific partnerships to design and implement students’ training with the use of high-quality standardized materials necessary for creation of sustainable educational models embedded with curricula. The aims of this project are:
1. address the common needs and priorities in the field of biomedical education resulting from limited access to laboratory infrastructure/equipment and teacher/peer-based institutional methods
2. enable transformation and curricular changes by creation of an innovative online laboratory practice in biotechnology/ bioscience lab techniques
3. promote knowledge transfer to digitally enhanced scientific approach
4. allow learners to develop skills for professional decision-making and scientific operational autonomy
5. enhance the quality in biomedical laboratory science education and practice
6. increase the capacity of cooperating participants to operate jointly at transnational level
7. open biomedical laboratory science to external learners and potential stakeholders
