Prospective ECG gating is a "step-and-shoot" CT acquisition technique where image data is captured only during a specific, pre-selected phase of the cardiac cycle (usually mid-to-late diastole). Unlike retrospective gating, where radiation is continuous, the X-ray tube in prospective gating is only triggered "on" when the ECG signal reaches a certain point and remains "off" for the rest of the cycle.

which represents an important and critical radiological evidence for the UMN lesion . This radiation marker is a classic feature that supports the diagnosis of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), reflecting vallar degeneration and glial proliferation caused by damage to motor nerve fibres in the brain.

Their presence greatly helps in distinguishing diagnostics of ALS from other causes of muscle dysfunction.
