Pakistan Community Support Project
The PCSP is improving local infrastructure & service delivery across the CASA-1000 corridor.
The Pakistan Community Support Project (PCSP) aims to improve access to local infrastructure and basic services while strengthening citizen engagement in the project’s three target districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province: Khyber, Peshawar, and Nowshera. PCSP uses a community-driven development approach so that communities can actively participate and receive socioeconomic benefits.
The Pakistan Community Support Project (PCSP) has become a model of community-driven development for the uplift of the rural communities residing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the Merged Areas. The development cooperation under the project between the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the World Bank has enabled the community members, government officials, and project management in identifying the priority needs of the citizens, including women, youth, and marginalized groups, through participatory bottom-up planning. The community-led infrastructure activities have been further amplified to improve the lives and livelihoods of the communities by engaging them in development initiatives which are directly benefiting them, under the benefits sharing feature of the CASA-1000 Project.
Within the context of the Pakistan Community Support Project, we have successfully adopted citizen score card as a tool for strengthening community participation. Through a constructive and inclusive dialogue on community issues, our target communities have not only benefitted from these initiatives but have taken full ownership of the development activities and issues around them. The PCSP has created opportunities for further improving citizen participation in local development as well as assessing the quality of service delivery.
The solar-powered irrigation tube wells have brought many benefits to the communities in the project target areas. In these villages, the agricultural lands have completely transformed with improved availability of water for irrigation. This has resulted in increased agriculture productivity leading to food security and higher incomes.

The implementation of the PCSP has advanced local development in the rural parts of Khyber, Peshawar, and Nowshera districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The project has accomplished this by enabling the community members and project management in identifying the priority needs of the citizens through participatory bottom-up planning. It has also contributed towards improving lives and livelihoods of the communities in the CASA-1000 corridor by directly engaging them in the identification and implementation of the development initiatives.
