The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has announced that Pakistan will continue to remain on the watchdog's "increased monitoring list" also known as the grey list in a press conference after its five-day plenary meeting.

Announcing the decision, FATF President Dr Marcus Pleyer said "Pakistan has made significant measures and it has largely addressed 26 out of 27 measures."

In its last presser following a plenary, on Feb 25, FATF President Dr Marcus Pleyer had said Pakistan remained under increased monitoring, adding that “while Islamabad has made significant progress, there remained some serious deficiencies in mechanisms to plug terrorism financing”.

A couple of days ago Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that given Pakistan's recent progress, the financial watchdog had no justification to keep the country on its grey list.

After years of deadlock, the Pakistani government and K-Electric (KE) have finally agreed to sell the company to Shanghai Electric Power (SEP).

According to Arab News, the long-running payment dispute has finally been resolved, with corporate executives confirming the news on Sunday.

The KE representatives met with an inter-ministerial committee on Sunday to discuss the remaining issues. “I am delighted to report that the Federal Government and KE have today agreed-upon principles to resolve most of their long-standing disagreements about additional supply, payment methods, and subsidy disbursements,” Energy Minister Hammad Azhar said on Twitter on Sunday.

Sadiq Khan was re-elected London Mayor on Saturday as had been widely expected, providing some joy to the opposition Labour Party which has suffered a series of disappointing results in other local elections.

Khan, who became the first Muslim to head a major Western capital after his victory in 2016, saw off his main challenger, Shaun Bailey, the candidate from Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservative Party.

He won by 55.2% to Bailey's 44.8% in a result which had been widely predicted, although his winning margin was smaller than his victory five years ago.

"I am deeply humbled by the trust Londoners have placed in me to continue leading the greatest city on earth," Khan said, who focused his campaign on creating jobs and boosting London's tourism economy.

"I promise to strain every sinew to help build a better and brighter future for London after the dark days of the pandemic."
