The Kaaba Sharif, often simply referred to as the Kaaba, is a sacred structure located in the heart of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is a cube-shaped building covered with a black silk and gold-embroidered cloth known as the Kiswah. The Kaaba is considered the most sacred site in Islam and is often referred to as the "House of Allah."
Every year, millions of Muslims from around the world visit the Kaaba to perform the Hajj pilgrimage and the Umrah. The structure is approximately 13.1 meters (43 feet) tall and 11.0 meters (36 feet) wide and holds a black stone, the Hajr al-Aswad, which is believed to date back to the time of Adam and is an object of reverence.
The Kaaba is encircled by the tawaf, a ritual where pilgrims walk around the Kaaba seven times in a counter-clockwise direction. It serves as the Qibla, the direction that Muslims face during prayers. The significance of the Kaaba extends beyond its physical form; it symbolizes unity among Muslims worldwide, regardless of their cultural or ethnic backgrounds.
