Amid rising concerns and fast development of human-like artificial intelligence technology (AI) such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, a leading AI expert — usually regarded as the Godfather of AI — quits his post at Google to speak up about the dangers posed by the technology.

Geoffrey Hinton left his position at the technology giant last week. He has pioneered neural networks of AI systems widely used in technology products.

He has also contributed to the company's AI development however, he had maintained concerns since he was working at Google as the technology began to advance.

Hinton told the New York Times that "I console myself with the normal excuse: If I hadn't done it, somebody else would have."

Billionaire Elon Musk said on Monday he will launch an artificial intelligence (AI) platform that he calls "TruthGPT" to challenge the offerings from Microsoft and Google.
He criticized Microsoft-backed OpenAI, the firm behind chatbot sensation ChatGPT, of "training the AI to lie" and said OpenAI has now become a "closed source," "for-profit" organization "closely allied with Microsoft."
He also accused Larry Page, co-founder of Google, of not taking AI safety seriously.
"I'm going to start something which I call 'TruthGPT', or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe," Musk said in an interview with Fox News Channel's Tucker Carlson aired on Monday.
He said TruthGPT "might be the best path to safety" that would be "unlikely to annihilate humans."
"It's simply starting late. But I will try to create a third option," Musk said.
Musk, OpenAI, Microsoft and Page did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.
Musk has been poaching AI researchers from Alphabet Inc's Google to launch a startup to rival OpenAI, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Musk last month registered a firm named http://X.AI Corp, incorporated in Nevada, according to a state filing. The firm listed Musk as the sole director and Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk's family office, as a secretary.

To do this, a user must first establish an AI agent in the app, describe the job of the agent, and then provide five objectives for the agent to meet. Along with a Google API key, one must also provide it an OpenAI API key while doing this.
Once this is finished, the tool may easily do iterative operations, such as taking a GPT-4 output and feeding it back into the AI model to enhance the outcomes.

With rapidly expanding AI competition from Microsoft and OpenAI, Google's search engine is lagging behind. The company is racing to compete with a new AI-powered search engine.

Though still in its early stages of development, the search engine might offer hopes of a “far more personalized experience”.

The company is also developing other new AI features for its existing search engine under Codename 'Magi'.

Some of the features the rumored search engine will feature include a chatbot that can answer software engineering questions and generate code snippets. The changes could persuade more content producers to sign up for the platform or prevent them from leaving. For the first year, Twitter won’t take a cut of customers’ membership fees, but this might be a move to increase revenue in the future.

SpaceX plans to carry out its first test flight on Monday of Starship, the most powerful rocket ever built, designed to send astronauts to the Moon and eventually beyond.
The launch is scheduled to take place at 7:00 am (1200 GMT) from the sprawling Texas base of the private space company owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
The US space agency NASA has picked the Starship capsule to ferry its astronauts to the Moon as part of the Artemis III mission, set for late 2025 at the earliest. Starship consists of a reusable capsule that carries crew and cargo and the first-stage Super Heavy booster rocket.
The 164-foot (50-meter) tall Starship spacecraft sits atop the 230-foot tall Super Heavy rocket. SpaceX conducted a successful test-firing of the 33 Raptor engines on the first-stage booster of Starship in February.
The Super Heavy booster was anchored to the ground during the test-firing, called a static fire, to prevent it from lifting off.
The rocket has never flown in its full configuration, powered by the first stage.
“Success may be, excitement guaranteed!” Musk tweeted late Friday.

China’s “artificial sun” broke all records as it generated extremely hot plasma for seven minutes on the night of April 12. The artificial sun project is based on nuclear fusion, giving China an unlimited energy source without generating residual waste.
Nuclear fusion is based on the idea that energy can be released by forcing atomic nuclei together rather than separating them, as in the fission reactions that powers the existing nuclear power plants.
In a breakthrough, the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) in the eastern Chinese city of Hefei produced and maintained plasma for 403 seconds, beating its own previous record of 101 seconds set in 2017, CGTN reported.
The report noted that the quantum leap was achieved after more than 120,000 runs. The recent achievement represents another significant step towards developing highly effective, reasonably priced thermonuclear fusion reactors.
Moreover, it is expected to serve as a crucial experimental foundation for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor’s operation and China’s independent development and operation of fusion reactors.
The ultimate objective of EAST, based at the Institute of Plasma Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP) in Hefei, is to produce nuclear fusion similar to that of the Sun using materials abundant in the sea to offer a continual stream of clean energy.
In an exclusive interview with Xinhua, ASIPP director Song Yuntao stated that the main significance of this breakthrough lies in the high confinement mode. He claimed that high confinement plasma operation significantly boosted particle temperature and density, laying the groundwork for future fusion power plants to generate more electricity cheaply and efficiently.

This week, WhatsApp unveiled the Call Links, a useful upgrade to its calling feature. Users can make links for their audio or video calls, and send them to anyone else who also has Whatsapp installed.
