🔄 HOW TO SEND CRYPTO FROM ONE EXCHANGE OR WALLET TO ANOTHER
Ever wondered what actually happens behind the Send, Withdraw, and Deposit buttons when you transfer crypto?
Let’s break it down using Binance + MetaMask as an example. 👇
🟡 1. BINANCE → METAMASK
Suppose you want to send 100 USDT from Binance to your MetaMask wallet.
Step 1 — Get the receiving address
Open MetaMask → select USDT → choose the correct network → copy your wallet address.
Step 2 — Withdraw from Binance
Go to Withdraw → select USDT → paste the MetaMask address → select the same network → enter the amount.
Step 3 — Binance processes the withdrawal
Before anything reaches the blockchain, Binance's backend checks your balance, withdrawal permissions, security controls, address and other requirements.
Step 4 — Blockchain transaction
Binance's wallet infrastructure creates and cryptographically signs a transaction, then broadcasts it to the selected blockchain.
The blockchain validates and records the transaction in a block.
Step 5 — MetaMask displays the funds
After the transaction is confirmed, MetaMask reads the blockchain state and displays the received USDT.
---
🔵 2. METAMASK → BINANCE
The process works in the opposite direction.
Step 1 — Get Binance's deposit address
Binance → Deposit → USDT → select the supported network → copy the deposit address.
Step 2 — Send from MetaMask
Enter the Binance deposit address, select the correct asset/network, enter the amount and confirm the transaction.
Step 3 — MetaMask signs the transaction
Your wallet uses your private key to authorize the transaction and broadcasts it to the blockchain.
Step 4 — Binance detects the deposit
Binance's deposit-monitoring infrastructure watches the blockchain for transactions arriving at its deposit addresses.
Once the required blockchain conditions are satisfied, Binance identifies the deposit and associates it with your account.
Step 5 — Your Binance balance is credited
The received amount appears in your Binance account.
---
🧠 WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE BACKEND?
The process can be simplified as:
User Interface
⬇️
Exchange/Wallet Backend
⬇️
Wallet & Transaction System
⬇️
Cryptographic Signature
⬇️
Blockchain Network
⬇️
Transaction Validation & Consensus
⬇️
Recipient Address
⬇️
Exchange Deposit System / Wallet
⬇️
Updated Balance
💡 EXCHANGE BALANCE ≠ BLOCKCHAIN BALANCE
This is one of the most important concepts to understand.
With a self-custody wallet such as MetaMask, your blockchain assets are controlled through your wallet's private keys.
With a centralized exchange, the balance you see is generally an internal account balance maintained by the exchange. The exchange controls the underlying wallet infrastructure and manages the blockchain transactions.
So when you see:
100 USDT in your Binance account
that doesn't necessarily mean there is a blockchain address containing exactly 100 USDT specifically assigned to you.
The exchange maintains an internal accounting system that records your entitlement to those funds.
---
⚠️ ALWAYS CHECK THE NETWORK
For example:
USDT — TRC-20
is not the same transfer route as
USDT — ERC-20
Before sending crypto, always verify:
✅ Correct cryptocurrency
✅ Correct recipient address
✅ Correct blockchain/network
✅ Deposit/withdrawal requirements
✅ Minimum amount
✅ Network/withdrawal fee
Sending an asset through an unsupported network can result in funds becoming inaccessible or requiring recovery.
🔗 THE BIG PICTURE
A crypto transfer is not simply:
"Click Send → Coins move."
It is more accurately:
Interface → Backend → Transaction → Cryptographic Signature → Blockchain → Validation → Recipient → Exchange/Wallet Accounting
Understanding this backend flow helps you understand how blockchain, exchanges, wallets, smart contracts and crypto payments actually work.

🟣 FILECOIN: HOW ITS BLOCKCHAIN BACKEND WORKS
Filecoin is a blockchain, not just a token running on another network.
It has its own:
⛓️ Blockchain
⚙️ Consensus mechanism
💾 Storage-provider network
🪙 FIL economy
🤖 Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM)
Filecoin connects decentralized physical storage with blockchain technology using cryptographic proofs and economic incentives.
---
🌐 HOW FILECOIN WORKS
Traditional cloud storage:
User → AWS / Google Cloud / Azure → Centralized servers
Filecoin:
User → Filecoin Network → Independent Storage Providers
The large files themselves are stored by Storage Providers. The blockchain records important information such as:
• Storage deals
• Payments
• Provider state
• Storage commitments
• Cryptographic proofs
• Network state
---
🔐 PROOF OF REPLICATION + PROOF OF SPACETIME
Two important technologies are used to verify storage.
Proof of Replication (PoRep) helps prove that a provider has created a unique encoded copy of the client's data.
Proof of Spacetime (PoSt) helps prove that the provider continues storing that data over time.
Simplified:
Data → Storage Provider → Sealing → PoRep → PoSt → Continuous verification
This allows Filecoin to connect storage resources with blockchain-based verification.
---
⚙️ STORAGE POWER & CONSENSUS
Filecoin's consensus model is different from Bitcoin's Proof of Work.
Bitcoin:
Computational Work → Consensus Power
Filecoin:
Provable Storage → Storage Power → Consensus Influence
Providers contribute storage capacity and generate cryptographic proofs. Their storage power becomes part of the network's consensus mechanism.
---
⚠️ IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS
Being a legitimate blockchain doesn't mean Filecoin has no weaknesses.
1️⃣ Storage ≠ Fast Retrieval
Filecoin can verify that a provider is maintaining committed storage, but this doesn't automatically guarantee fast or always-available retrieval.
Proof that data is stored ≠ guarantee of fast access
Storage and retrieval therefore involve different infrastructure and providers.
---
2️⃣ Storage Provider Concentration
Filecoin is decentralized at the protocol level, but storage capacity can become concentrated among large professional providers.
Many small providers
↓
More distributed storage
Few large providers
↓
Large share of storage power
↓
Greater consensus influence
This creates a decentralization risk that needs continuous monitoring.
---
3️⃣ High Hardware & Operational Requirements
Operating a serious Filecoin storage facility requires more than simply connecting a hard drive.
Providers need to manage:
💾 Storage hardware
🔐 Sector sealing
🧮 Cryptographic proofs
🌐 Networking
💰 Collateral
⏱️ Proof deadlines
🔄 Continuous proof generation
Failure to meet proof requirements can result in penalties or slashing.
This can make participation easier for professional and well-capitalized providers than ordinary users.
---
4️⃣ Slashing & Provider Risk
Filecoin uses economic penalties to encourage reliable behavior.
Reliable provider → Rewards
Failure or certain malicious behavior → Collateral at risk
This strengthens the economic security of the network, but also increases the technical and financial requirements for storage providers.
---
5️⃣ 🔒 Decentralized Does Not Automatically Mean Private
This is an important point.
If sensitive files are uploaded without encryption, storage providers may potentially be able to access the data.
A better approach is:
Private data → Client-side encryption → Encrypted file → Filecoin storage
For sensitive information, encryption should be applied before the data is uploaded.
---
6️⃣ FVM Smart-Contract Risks
The Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM) allows developers to deploy smart contracts on the Filecoin blockchain.
This creates additional possibilities for applications, but also introduces common smart-contract risks:
• Contract bugs
• Poor access control
• Economic exploits
• Malicious contracts
• Poorly designed automated systems
Therefore:
Filecoin protocol security ≠ Smart-contract/DApp security
---
7️⃣ FIL Economic Risk
FIL is used for:
🪙 Storage payments
💰 Collateral
🎁 Provider rewards
⚙️ Network incentives
Because of this, FIL's market economics can influence:
• Provider profitability
• Collateral requirements
• Storage pricing
• Network incentives
• Provider participation
This is primarily an economic risk, rather than a cryptographic weakness.
---
📊 FILECOIN: KEY RISKS & TRADE-OFFS
Area| Consideration
Consensus| Large providers can have greater influence
Storage| Proof doesn't guarantee fast retrieval
Retrieval| Requires separate infrastructure
Privacy| Encryption is important
Hardware| High operational requirements
Economics| FIL volatility affects incentives
Smart Contracts| FVM applications can contain vulnerabilities
Provider Failure| Proof failures can lead to penalties
Decentralization| Large providers may dominate capacity
---
🧠 FINAL VIEW
Filecoin is a legitimate blockchain architecture that goes beyond using blockchain as a financial ledger.
Its main innovation is connecting:
Physical Storage
↓
Cryptographic Proofs
↓
Blockchain Consensus
↓
Economic Incentives
↓
Programmable Applications through FVM
The main areas worth monitoring are provider concentration, data retrieval, privacy, hardware requirements, smart-contract security, and FIL economics.
One particularly important research question is:
Can a Proof-of-Storage blockchain remain sufficiently decentralized if a small number of professional providers control a large percentage of its storage power?
That question goes beyond simply looking at the FIL token and gets to the core of Filecoin's blockchain architecture.
