π How to find the domain of a function?
This is how you can become an expert in this topic.
The domain of a function is the set of all possible input values (usually 'x' values) for which the function is defined and gives a real number as output.
π In simple words: it's what 'x' can be in the function.
For algebraic functions to give a real number output, ensure:
β There is no zero in the denominator (if any), and
β There is no negative number inside a square root (if any).
π Example 1:
Function:
f(x) = 1 / (x - 2)
Tip:
Set denominator = 0
x - 2 = 0
Solve for x
x = 2
Remove this value from β (the set of real numbers)
Domain:
β β {2}
(All real numbers except 2)
π Example 2:
Function:
f(x) = β(2 β x)
Tip:
Set the expression inside the root β₯ 0

Solve the inequality for x
