Major Development in Islamabad for Khunjerab Tourism Corridor
Hunza Delegation Meets FPCCI President and Chairman of the Board of Investment Reopening of Khunjerab Pass for Chinese Tourists
Islamabad: In a significant development aimed at boosting cross-border tourism and strengthening Pakistan-China economic cooperation, a high-level delegation representing Hunza’s business community met with the President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Raja Nazim Ul Amin, Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI), in Islamabad to discuss the reopening of the Khunjerab Pass for Chinese tourists traveling to Hunza-Nagar.
The meeting focused on promoting the proposed Khunjerab Tourism Corridor, which stakeholders believe could play a vital role in revitalizing tourism, enhancing bilateral trade, and increasing economic opportunities for local communities in Gilgit-Baltistan.
During the discussions, the FPCCI President and BOI Chairman expressed strong support for the initiative and emphasized the importance of expanding tourism and commercial links between Pakistan and China under the framework of regional connectivity and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
As part of the initiative, a formal letter addressed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan was submitted, requesting the reopening of the Khunjerab Pass under a regulated and secure tourism framework to facilitate the entry of Chinese tourists into Hunza-Nagar and other parts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Following the meeting, FPCCI officially forwarded the proposal to both the Prime Minister’s Office and the President’s Office for further consideration and policy review.
Later, the FPCCI President and Chairman of the Board of Investment visited the Prime Minister’s House, where they held a meeting with the Prime Minister’s Secretary to further discuss the proposal. According to sources, the Secretary assured the delegation that the Prime Minister would personally review the matter after concluding his ongoing official engagements and would extend full support to initiatives aimed at promoting tourism and economic development in the northern regions.
The delegation included:
Mr. Raziq – Vice President, FPCCI
Mr. Mubarak Hussain – President, Hunza Small Chamber of Commerce
Mr. Nader Alam – President, Hunza Chamber of Commerce
Mr. Nazim Ullah Baig – Director of Foreign Trade, Hunza Small Chamber of Commerce
Mr. Nasir Wazir – Executive Member, Hunza Chamber of Commerce
Business leaders and tourism stakeholders from Hunza-Nagar and Gilgit-Baltistan welcomed the development, stating that reopening the Khunjerab Pass for Chinese tourists would significantly increase tourist inflow, generate employment opportunities, strengthen local businesses, and improve cultural and people-to-people exchanges between Pakistan and China.
They further noted that the initiative could position Hunza as a major regional tourism destination while contributing positively to Pakistan’s broader economic and diplomatic engagement with China.
