This is heartbreaking to report from home.
The River Ghizer has stopped flowing in Pingal area after a massive flash flood.
Chamugadh valley saw the river get blocked by huge mud and debris.
In Astore, Kachak area is completely cut off because the road has been washed away.
In Tangir, 27 houses are fully damaged and 40 more have partial damage.
Right now, every river in Gilgit-Baltistan is roaring.
Year after year we spend billions on relief and rehabilitation. But we don’t spend even a fraction of that on preparation, on climate-proof roads, bridges, and early warning systems.
And after all the damage is done, we get the same picture: DC sahib visiting with black glasses and a huge team.
We need to stop reacting and start preparing.
Our people in the mountains cannot keep paying the price every summer.
Prayers for everyone affected. And a request to all decision makers: invest in prevention, not just pictures.
