Pre-Tension 1. Steel is stretched before pouring concrete. 2. Done in factories (precast elements). 3. Concrete is cast after steel is tensioned. 4. Steel bonds directly with concrete. 5. Used for beams, poles, railway sleepers. 6. Cheaper, but limited to factory shapes and sizes. 7. Curing and setting happen under controlled conditions. ⸻ Post-Tension 1. Steel is stretched after concrete has hardened. 2. Done on-site (cast-in-place). 3. Concrete is cast first, then steel is tensioned. 4. Steel is in ducts and does not bond with concrete. 5. Used for bridges, slabs, long-span buildings. 6. More expensive, but flexible for complex designs. 7. Reduces thickness of slabs and cracks. #pretension #concrete #structure
