CSU - Catanduanes Indigenous Rice Development Program - CIRDEP

The goal of alleviating poverty and achieving food security among the Filipinos seems to remain elusive and distant.
Within the notions of collaboration and maximizing community participation in the remote island province located in the “typhoon highway”, a special initiative under the Office of President of the Catanduanes State University (CSU) in support of the “Aquatic Research and Development Consortium @ CSC for Food and Environmental Security” proposes the program on Catanduanes Sustainable Technology Inf
usion in Inland Fisheries Development Program (CSTIFDP). This program aims to enhance fish production through the use of matured and sustainable technologies as a vehicle towards poverty alleviation and food security in partnership with the farmers-fishers. It will be an in- situ and community-based technology assistance approach to define the best suited technology/ies to the locality considering the agro-climatic uniqueness inherent to geographical location and climate changes thus generating sustained income to the marginalized sector of the province. Aside from ensuring food-bio and environment of the impoverished farmers-fishers of the province, women (as the neglected sector) will be engaged in the post-harvest projects in processing and marketing of the fortified tilapia products to support women development initiatives.
