When I started freelancing, I dreamed of working on projects related to children, especially illustrations.
​
​
I love creating cute characters and bringing them to life with colors. But starting wasn’t easy for me. I felt like I wasn’t really good at it, and I didn’t have the right tools or gadgets.
​
​
I had to sketch on paper and use a mouse and Pen tool to digitalize them, or sometimes I used my phone to draw. I did this for a few weeks, along with other graphic design services, to save funds.
​
​
It was my goal to buy a drawing tablet, which I finally did after about three weeks of freelancing. But unfortunately, my laptop couldn’t handle it since it was still using some old components. So I had to buy and install it myself to save money on labor—and I felt pretty cool doing it hahaha.
​
​
​
​
Anyway, that was two years ago. I’m still using the same laptop and drawing tablet, but I now have an extra laptop for emergencies lol.
​
​
​
The point is,
​
​

Story Time!

Last Friday, I mentioned I've been quiet lately—
​
today, I'll tell you what's been keeping me busy these past months.
​
​
​
Just a quick backstory:
​
​
About a year ago, a client asked me to help put together his children's books for printing.
​
It was a challenge because I'd never done it before and didn't even know how to use InDesign! Haha But, of course, I took it on because he paid well. (Mukhang pera yarn? Haha charot)
​
​
Fast forward to now—
​
​
I've been laying out his books and making some changes to them. We finished two volumes, each with ten books, last year.
​
​
Then, right before Christmas, he asked if I wanted to try illustrating some of his books and offered to pay me more.
​
I was excited to give it a shot, even though I'm not great at drawing animals.
​
​
But I did my best, and he liked what I did.
​
​
​
Now, we've finished the three volumes, and I'm really happy with how it all turned out. However, I felt a little sad when we finished the 3rd set since I thought there was nothing else for me to do.
​
​
But then, I received an email from him asking if I could do additional illustrations for his merch, website, and articles because he's starting to do marketing stuff.
​
​
Since I've also added SMM to my services, I gathered my courage to ask him if he needed help with his socials. And he said yes, even asking if I could also do his newsletter this June. Of course, I grabbed it! It's a chance for me to learn new things and get better at what I want to do.
​
​
This whole experience showed me how important it is to keep good relationships with clients, no matter how small the job might seem at first. You never know where it might lead or what new opportunities might come up.
​
​
​
