Researchers at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy are 3D printing medicated patches to treat persistent sores and ulcers. This isn’t the first time wound dressings have been 3D printed, but the production methods and the novel materials used might surprise you. 🦀

The team used chitosan (CS), a biopolymer derived from chitin, which is naturally present in the exoskeletons of crustaceans and insects. This material has antibacterial properties and is biodegradable - meaning it can even be used to treat internal injuries within the body. ❤️‍🩹

YouTuber Mike Lake is attempting to build a life-size Formula 1-style car using mostly 3D printed parts, recreating a machine that would normally cost around $20 million to develop.

The project uses multiple Bambu Lab printers to produce components with PETG filament.

The first major part completed was the front wing, one of the most complex aerodynamic components of an F1 car. It required 38 printed pieces and more than 175 hours of printing.

Lake plans to print the rest of the car, including the body and chassis, to create a drivable vehicle.

Australian scientists from the University of Wollongong and Luyten 3D have developed the world’s first underwater 3D-printed concrete system. This breakthrough uses a "single-mix" formulation that stays stable and sets beneath the waves without needing traditional chemical accelerators or expensive dry-docking.

The technology solves the major challenge of "washout," where water disperses concrete before it can harden. By using a robotic arm to print layers directly on the seabed, researchers can repair critical marine infrastructure—like ports, offshore wind anchors, and reef systems—more efficiently and with far less waste.

This innovation is being hailed as a paradigm shift for the blue economy and global defense. Beyond Earth, the team believes building in these harsh, resource-constrained environments provides a vital blueprint for future construction on the Moon using lunar regolith.

The Pentagon launched a 3D-printed hypersonic testbed to collect real flight data on vehicles capable of flying at Mach 5 or faster.

The mission was carried out by the Defense Innovation Unit with an experimental vehicle built by the Australian company Hypersonix.

The three-meter DART AE demonstrator flew on Rocket Lab’s HASTE vehicle during the Cassowary Vex mission as part of the HyCAT program.

The hydrogen-powered scramjet vehicle gathered propulsion, trajectory, and vehicle performance data under real hypersonic conditions.

Officials say the program aims to increase the frequency and speed of hypersonic testing and to accelerate the development of next-generation high-speed weapons and aircraft.

MIT researchers developed a multi-material 3D printing platform capable of producing complete electric machines with moving parts.

The system uses four extruders to print conductive, magnetic, and structural materials in a single build process.

The team demonstrated the technology by printing an electric linear motor in about 3 hours, with a material cost of roughly 50 cents.

Researchers said the motor required only one post-printing step, magnetizing the hard magnetic components.

The work suggests complex electromechanical devices could be manufactured rapidly without traditional assembly or supply chains.
