Restoring Acceptance, Respect, and Decency

Your voice matters. You matter.

The webinar was a success!

Last Wednesday, May 10, 2023, students from Grade 12 STEM participated in our webinar all about the overview of the LUISA Project and the topics it covers.

The emcee, Gelyn D. Gaston, took charge of the online event. Juliana Bea B. Eaquierdo started the webinar with an opening prayer, followed by a brief overview of the advocacy, which was discussed by Noelle Ysabella O. Malabanan.

Participants listened to the presentations of Anne Nicole C. Penetrante, Janessa Jen S. Matawaran, and Nolyn James D. Sustal. A raffle was facilitated by Lee Ann M. Hinahon and Princess Nicole C. Guardiana, which was open to the participants who entered on time.

The webinar concluded with the awarding of certificates, closing remarks, and a closing prayer led by Mia Christine O. Arbis.

The whole team of the LUISA Project is grateful for everyone who gave their time to getting to know LUISA. We are happy to call you one of our members.

Thank you, Ka-ISAs!

In Filipino culture, older people teach children that the only way to prevent teenage pregnancy and s*xually transmitted diseases (STDs) is by restraining oneself. The concept of abstinence is not entirely wrong. The only misconception about abstinence is that society makes it a requirement for everyone. Because of this misconception, people often judge those who were not taught to do so.

As the years go by, it has been proven that abstinence-only education is ineffective in lessening the cases of teenage pregnancies and STDs. Letting our youth know more about their bodies and their natural processes, such as the release of hormones, will help address their curiosity.

With the proper guidance and an open mind, let us understand more about ourselves and others as well.

Most people often mistake the call to promote women's rights and women empowerment as hatred towards the male gender. This movement is rather a fundamental right.

In the past decades, women were considered inferior to men. As time passes by and society develops, they learned to fight for their rights. Women learned how to use their voices and speak their truth. And until today, women are still continuously striving to achieve the equal opportunities they deserve.

Remember to treat everyone fairly, ka-ISAs!

Hey there, mga ka-ISA! We are back! ✊🏻

For our comeback post, we will talk about how s*x education affects the behavior of growing adolescents like us.

Several opinions have been expressed regarding the inclusion of s*x education in the curriculum. Most people disagree, yet others are inclined to these concepts. Avoiding these subjects has little effect on the number of incidents involving pregnancy and abortion. Instead, it heightens the young person's curiosity.

As a result, we can motivate our peers to acquire knowledge in a useful manner through effective education. Let's try to explain things to them instead of just teaching them self-control. Our movement's goal is to accurately communicate our message without inciting young people to partake in such actions.

Our key to development is education and openness.

Discrimination has always been a factor that prevents us from achieving equality. Discrimination can take many forms. It may be unequal opportunities given to women, unnecessary hatred towards men, or unfair treatment towards members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Discrimination has its roots. It happens because of previous experiences, a lack of education, and influence from other people.

Knowing that we have access to many platforms, let us use our power to stop the stigma. Treat your peers equally, educate, and be kind.

Our journey does not stop here. As time passes, we get the opportunity to bring about change, and every change in this society occurs because of you, because of us. When we feel like the world is treating us unfairly, let's be the ones who can bring peace to the world with our simple ways.

Like what we always say—the ones who become conscious won't be able to "shut their eyes" any longer. Inequality shall no longer prevail.

Be the change.

LIFE SHOULD NOT END HERE.

According to Habito et al. (2021), teenage pregnancies occur in the Philippines due to differences in life circumstances and self-efficacy through early unions, accidents in romantic relationships, and prior adversity and disadvantages. While there is a need to lower the cases of teenage pregnancy, discrimination amongst adolescent parents, especially to young mothers, must stop.

In order to prevent circumstances from occurring, one must find its roots and address it from there, rather than telling people that it should not be done as it can trigger their curiosity even more.

To lower the cases of teenage pregnancy, poverty and inequality in the state must be addressed. Adolescents must have access to appropriate and comprehensive information on their s*xual and reproductive health. Social norms that support s*xual violence and gender-based power disparities also need to be transformed.

It's important to eliminate the belief that pregnancy marks the end of a person's life. Instead of treating them unfairly, let us give them an opportunity to keep on going with their life.

Save lives by breaking the stigma.
