USC-Medics in partnership with different organizations of the university held its annual HIV/AIDS awareness with its theme “Increasing Impact through Transprency, Accountability and Partnerships” last December 7, 2017 at Gansewinkel Hall, USC Downtown Campus.
Dr. Rosario Arco from the school clinic gave her opening remarks and followed by Brianne Borling, former USC-Medics President, for the rationale of the said activity.
The first main speaker was Mr. Jon Neil Perfecio, Department Head of Community Health Services & Development of VCMC and the Program Head of Advocating Gender-based Actions Towards Caring Communities (AGACC), who gave an overview on what HIV/AIDS is all about and its statistical updates in the Philippines. The second speaker was Br. Noel Tecson, SVD, Chairman of the Dept. of Nursing, who shared his expertise on the mental health aspect of HIV. The question and answer portion followed afterwards.
A survey was also conducted prior to the activity to assess the participants’ knowledge about HIV/AIDS. Raymund Rosero, USC-Medics VP, presented the results and majority of the respondents had great knowledge about the topic. To end the activity the organization’s President, Kathrine Mondero, delivered her heartwarming gratitude to all the people who made the activity a success and encouraged everyone to be advocates of HIV/AIDS.

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus, which is the virus that causes HIV infection. HIV attacks and destroys the infection-fighting CD4 cells of the immune system. The loss of CD4 cells makes it difficult for the body to fight infections and certain cancers. Without treatment, HIV can gradually destroy the immune system and advance to AIDS.
The USC Medics, in partnership with USC Psychology Society, presents HIV 101 Counseling And Testing this November 18, 2017 (Saturday) at PE34BTC from 08:00am to 12:00pm.
End the dread. Stop the spread.
