EARTHQUAKE ALERT!

Yesterday, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Sarangani, Mindanao. Several buildings and structures in parts of Mindanao sustained intense damage following this earthquake. All residents are advised to stay alert for aftershocks to avoid potential injury.

We, the SAS Bulletin, pray for the safety of everyone during this time. May God keep us all safe and keep us and our loved ones away from immediate danger.

Following the jolting magnitude 7.8 earthquake off the coast of Sarangani early this morning, June 8, 2026, the University of San Carlos extends its deepest concern to all affected Carolinians and their families in Mindanao.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just need someone to talk to, the USC Counseling and Development Center (CDC) is ready to support you.

You may email the USC-CDC office at [email protected] or message its official page at USC Counseling and Development Center (https://www.facebook.com/share/1EvT9KVcyH/).

Furthermore, students, faculty, and staff requiring immediate material support, relief, or financial guidance due to the impact of the earthquake are encouraged to reach out to the USC Community Extension Services (CES) via email at [email protected], local telephone extension 351.

We pray for the safety, protection, and resilience of everyone in Mindanao; may God keep you and your loved ones out of harm's way, and please do not hesitate to reach out.

It's that time of the year, Majesties, a time where we put love above all. This June, SAS Bulletin celebrates love in all forms, honors the courage of those who came before us, and continues creating a world where everyone can live authentically and proudly. Pride is more than a celebration—it is a reminder that diversity makes our communities stronger, brighter and more beautiful. 💓💖

On a history side note, do you know the meaning of each individual color of the pride flag? Red equals life, orange symbolizes healing, yellow stands for sunlight, green represents nature, indigo stands for serenity, and violet represents the spirit of the LGBTQIA. 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

So come on, Majesties, join us in celebrating Pride this 2026. And remember, shade never made anybody less gay 🥳

TAKLOB: A Glimpse Into the World of the Unnoticed Working Class

On May 19, 2026 the Freshman BA Communications students of UP Cebu officially established TAKLOB at the University of the Philippines Cebu Comm Wing, CCAD Building which ran until May 29, 2026.

TAKLOB, a photography exhibition featuring 158 photos documenting the lives of those "unnoticed" through impactful visual narratives delivering the everyday experiences specifically the working class, the ones who struggle to make ends meet but still accomplish their vital role in society—which is to keep it moving.

On the same day a political rally honoring those who died a month passed since the massacre in Negros, the 19 people and among them one of the UP student leaders.

Every May 22, the world comes together for the International Day of Biological Diversity—celebrating the beauty of nature and a reminder for beauty, richness, and importance of life on Earth. From vibrant forests and oceans to the countless unique species that travel across these plains, biodiversity surrounds us in ways we take for granted. 🌏🌿

We celebrate to remind us that nature is not only essential for our survival, but also wondrous and shapes balance and inspiration. Together, we appreciate and protect the diverse makeup of the Earth, creating a healthier and more sustainable future for everyone. Even small actions—planting trees, throwing trash in the correct bins, and caring for our environment—make huge differences.

Let us continue to celebrate the diversity of life, Majesties, and work together to preserve the world for generations to come. 🦋🌤️

The University of San Carlos has announced that on campus classes and work are suspended starting at 12:00 PM today, May 6, until May 8, 2026. Under this temporary arrangement, lecture classes may transition online, while laboratory classes and pre-planned activities may still be conducted onsite—subject to mutual agreement between faculty and students.
