In Taym Pers 4, ALPAS Art Group extends its inquiry into the cultural and philosophical resonances of childhood games. This time bridging the vernacular play of Filipino youth with the shared heritage of Southeast Asia. Here, traditional games become more than pastimes as they emerge as common languages, mapping kinships across borders long before official unions like ASEAN were imagined.

As the world rushes toward automation and hyper-efficiency, Taym Pers 4 reclaims the child’s body in motion as a site of resilience, imagination, and communal rhythm. From patintero to sepak takraw, the exhibit draws parallels between the spontaneous order of street play and the quiet diplomacy of coexistence. The playing field becomes a stage where ethics are rehearsed, borders are softened, and identity is performed with joy and friction alike.

Through interactive installations, archival interventions, and community storytelling, ALPAS invites viewers to consider how the games of our childhood are not relics, but rehearsals for a more grounded, regional solidarity. In play, as in peace, we learn to move together.

We invite you to join us on Sunday, November 17, at 4:00 PM for the opening of “Spaces of Dailiness”.

Spaces of Dailiness is a group exhibition that endeavours to enliven attentiveness to the textures and tensions of everyday life as they play out in a range of settings, including the home, the street, the cobbler’s workshop and the farm.

The show features the works of Lawrence Borsoto, Buhay Mendoza, Jun Tuplano, Jade Cabauatan, Nic Navarro, and Jonathan Joven. Each of these artists proffers a particular angle of vision from which to consider, and reconsider, phenomena construed as mundane and familiar, and therefore unremarkable – even as they connect to, and undergird, broader discourses of social life.

Spaces of Dailiness will open at vMeme Contemporary Art Gallery @ Young Artists Studio, 3rd Level, Estancia Mall East Wing, Pasig City. Exhibit runs from 17 November until 6 December 2024.
