WEAR CEBU: Defining a Distinct Cebuano Fashion Identity

In an era where fashion increasingly seeks authenticity, cultural relevance, and a strong sense of place, WEAR CEBU emerges as a bold creative movement that champions the originality, artistry, and evolving identity of Cebuano design.

Conceptualized and directed by Dexter Alazas, WEAR CEBU brings together a collective of Cebuano designers united by a common vision: to celebrate and elevate a distinctly Cebuano way of dressing. More than a fashion showcase, it is a cultural statement—an ongoing campaign that encourages Cebuanos to embrace, reinterpret, and proudly wear their heritage in contemporary life.

Rooted in centuries of history, the movement draws inspiration from Cebu’s pre-colonial traditions, Spanish-era influences, and the dynamic lifestyle of the modern Cebuano. Through fashion, WEAR CEBU explores how these diverse influences have shaped a unique aesthetic language that continues to evolve while remaining deeply connected to its origins.

At its core, Cebu Wear is not confined to a single silhouette or garment. It is a living expression of identity. It can be casual daywear, sophisticated evening attire, resort-inspired ensembles, or contemporary tropical dressing. It is reflected in the reinterpretation of timeless staples—from the tapis, sarong, kimona, and barong to the baro’t saya and other garments that have long formed part of the Cebuano wardrobe.

Each participating designer contributes their own signature perspective, creating modern interpretations that resonate with today’s generation while honoring the craftsmanship and traditions that came before. Local weaves, indigenous textiles, and fine Filipino fabrics serve as the foundation of these creations, transformed through innovative design and contemporary styling.

As one of the leading advocates of Cebuano fashion and cultural preservation, Dexter Alazas continues to trailblaze initiatives that position local creativity at the forefront of the national fashion conversation. Through WEAR CEBU, he envisions a future where Cebuano fashion is not merely recognized as regional attire, but celebrated as a distinct design movement with its own voice, character, and global relevance.

WEAR CEBU stands as a collective declaration that local design matters. It is a tribute to the artisans, weavers, and designers who keep traditions alive, and to the wearers who proudly carry Cebu’s story through what they choose to wear.

More than fashion, WEAR CEBU is a movement—one that honors heritage, embraces innovation, and confidently defines what it means to dress Cebuano in the modern age.

WEAR CEBU FASHION SHOW CELEBRATES HERITAGE, CREATIVITY, AND SUSTAINABLE LUXURY AT THE MALL AT NUSTAR CEBU

In a vibrant celebration of Philippine Independence Day, Wear Cebu took center stage at The Mall at NUSTAR Cebu on June 12, 2026, presenting an inspiring showcase of Cebuano creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural pride. The fashion event highlighted the evolving narrative of local design—where heritage traditions seamlessly meet contemporary luxury and sustainable innovation.

Bringing together some of Cebu’s most dynamic designers and artisans, Wear Cebu served as a platform for the region’s finest handwoven textiles, artisanal craftsmanship, embroidery, and modern fashion interpretations. The showcase underscored Cebu’s growing influence as a hub for creative excellence while championing locally made products and sustainable design practices.

Opening the presentation was Savana Craft, featuring a charming collection of heritage-inspired crochet pieces complemented by handcrafted bags and hats by Arte ni Juana. The collection paid tribute to traditional craftsmanship while embracing modern-day functionality and style.

Designer Brendon Cenon followed with a refined menswear presentation, offering contemporary interpretations of the classic Barong and Cebu Wear. His collection demonstrated how Filipino formalwear can be reimagined for today’s sophisticated gentleman while maintaining its cultural essence.

Bezza Wear captivated the audience with its innovative recycled fashion collection, showcasing stylish activewear designed for the modern, environmentally conscious woman. The presentation highlighted the growing importance of sustainability in contemporary fashion.

Renowned designer Yves Camingue unveiled a striking black-and-white avant-garde collection inspired by Filipino-Spanish aesthetics. The dramatic silhouettes and artistic detailing reflected a bold vision of the modern Cebuana—confident, elegant, and unapologetically expressive.

Designer Jessica Ouano Durano presented a thoughtful collection that merged indigenous materials with contemporary design sensibilities. Through fabric manipulation techniques and sustainable fashion principles, her pieces celebrated the beauty and versatility of local resources.

The runway continued with Jean Paul Cabigon’s collection, Sawa, which showcased mixed Filipino textiles transformed into effortlessly chic and timeless garments. Designed for both men and women, the collection featured versatile pieces that transitioned seamlessly from daytime sophistication to evening elegance.

Closing the showcase was Dexter Alazas, whose resort-inspired collection embodied the relaxed spirit of island living. Featuring a creative fusion of local fabrics, lace, and handwoven hablon, the collection was distinguished by hand-painted illustrations depicting iconic Cebu landmarks. The presentation offered a wearable love letter to Cebu—celebrating its culture, heritage, and enduring beauty through fashion.

The event culminated with the Admire Models Philippines – STYLISSIMO Summer Sessions 2026 Culminating Show, spotlighting emerging talents who completed the modeling and image development program. Their confident runway performances reflected months of training, dedication, and personal growth.

More than a fashion show, Wear Cebu served as a powerful reminder that local heritage remains a rich source of inspiration for contemporary design. By supporting artisans, championing sustainability, and elevating Cebuano creativity onto a larger stage, the event reinforced the importance of preserving cultural traditions while embracing innovation for future generations.

Wear Cebu continues to champion the message that world-class fashion can proudly be made in Cebu—crafted with purpose, rooted in heritage, and designed for the future.
