BLESSING OF NEW FIRE AND WATER
The blessing of new fire and water is a significant rite in the Catholic Easter Vigil, marking the beginning of the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. The new fire, kindled outside the church, symbolizes Christ's renewed presence and is used to light the Paschal candle, which represents Christ the Light of the World. The blessing of water, typically holy water, follows, signifying purification, cleansing, and the washing away of sins, and is often used in baptisms.

SANTO ENTIERRO
The "Santo Entierro"holds deep historical and religious significance, particularly in Catholic traditions. It symbolizes the burial of Jesus Christ after His crucifixion, marking a solemn moment in Holy Week observances. The practice dates back centuries and has been preserved in many Spanish-influenced cultures, including the Philippines.
Historically, the Santo Entierro procession was introduced by Spanish missionaries as part of their evangelization efforts. Over time, it became a deeply rooted tradition, especially in places like Bantayan Island, where the image of the dead Christ is believed to be miraculous.
In many communities, the Santo Entierro image is carried in an elaborately decorated calandra (bier), often adorned with flowers, as a sign of mourning and reverence. Devotees participate in the procession as an act of penance and devotion, commemorating Christ’s sacrifice for humanity.
