In line with the observance of Philippine National Disaster Resilience Month, Laguna Water conducted its annual tree-planting and nurturing program, Pasibol: Puno ng Pag-asa. Around 80 volunteers from its workforce and partner agencies joined hands to plant 700 saplings of Narra, Sampaloc, Balitbitan, and other native tree species. These saplings are expected to cover at least one hectare of land in Barangay Anibong, Pagsanjan, Laguna, a forest area declared by the local government.

During the program, Kenneth Kim A. Villanueva, Laguna Water’s Regional Operations Department Head for Expansions, highlighted how the activity helps mitigate the impacts of climate change and directly supports the achievement of targets under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Clean Water and Sanitation, Climate Action, and Life on Land.

“While the impacts of climate change can seem overwhelming and intimidating, Pasibol stands as a powerful reminder that even small initiatives can make a meaningful difference. It demonstrates that positive change is still possible, especially when individuals and communities come together to develop solutions that strengthen resilience against climate-related disasters,” he shared.

The tree-planting activity was conducted in partnership with the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), which provided the native tree saplings from its nursery in Lumban, Laguna. Meanwhile, the planting site within the Camp Scouter Jaime B. Ching Campsite was prepared and will be maintained by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Laguna Council. Both agencies signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Laguna Water to support one another’s advocacy programs through resource sharing and volunteerism.

Also present during the activity were employees of the Pagsanjan Water District and representatives from the local government of Pagsanjan. Leading the volunteers from the municipality was Mayor Januario Ferry Garcia, who emphasized the importance of Barangay Anibong, a declared forest area, in maintaining the local watershed. He noted that the continuous protection of the barangay through reforestation initiatives helps ensure that residents of Pagsanjan have reliable and sustainable access to clean water.

Pasibol: Puno ng Pag-asa is Laguna Water’s flagship biodiversity program. Through this initiative, the company remains committed to planting at least 500 native trees annually as part of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments and targets.
