Beyond the competition itself, students gain valuable experience in resilience, teamwork, and time management. Whether they win or not, they leave with greater confidence and a stronger passion for science.

These events often spark interest in STEM careers and motivate students to continue exploring and learning. Science competitions celebrate young scientists and inspire them to pursue solutions to today’s—and tomorrow’s—challenges.

Activities and contest in the 2024 School-based Science and Technology Fair are incredibly valuable experiences that promote curiosity, innovation, and hands-on learning. These competitions challenge students to dive deeper into scientific concepts, develop critical thinking skills, and apply what they’ve learned to real-world problems.

It encourages students to think creatively and independently while adhering to rigorous scientific methods. They also provide an excellent platform for students to practice communication skills, as they must explain their work to judges, teachers, and peers, often under the pressure of time constraints.

Lydia D. Villangca Trade School together with the Science Club and YES-O successfully conducted the SY 2024 School-Based Science and Technology Fair last October 14 - 18, 2024 with the theme “Rebuilding Resilient Communities: Embracing Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future”, which highlights:

d. On-the Spot Poster Making Contest
e. Essay Writing Contest
f. Enviro-Photo Contest
g. Chemical Magic Presentation
h. STEMazing
i. Enviro-Spoken Poetry
j. Kanta-Kalikasan

The competition aims to achieve the following objectives:
🟩 Provide the participants an avenue to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts and skills learned, through the performance in contest;
🟩 Cultivate the interest of the youth in Science and Technology;
🟩 Enhance their competence through a healthy and friendly competition; and
🟩 provide due recognition to deserving pupils

This coming month of September has been declared National Science Club Month (NSCM) under Presidential Proclamation No. 264, s. 2002. The said proclamation authorizes the Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Philippine Society of Youth and Science Clubs (PSYSC), and Science Club Advisers’ Association of the Philippines (SCAAP) to implement plans and activities pertinent to the National Science Club Month.

The Information and Communications Technology Service-Educational Technology Unit (ICTS-EdTech) will conduct the 2021 National Science Club Month Webinar Series with OUA Memo No. 00-0821-0061. These are webinar sessions for public and private school teachers and learners linking ICT tools and emerging technologies.

The sessions will be held every Saturday on September 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Participants may sign-up through the open registration via the DepEd Professional Development-Learning Management System (PD-LMS) and the sessions will be aired on the following social media accounts:

Certificates of Participation will be given to the participants through the DepEd PD-LMS. Those who will have complete attendance (all four Saturdays) shall receive a Certificate of Recognition (National Certificate).
