When Decency Becomes a Weakness
By - One Ken
Bashing the very first person — President Bongbong Marcos — to say “It’s enough” and “Mahiya naman kayo”? The same leader who chose democracy and due process over pride and vengeance? What’s wrong with us, really?
We have long cried for a leader who listens, who governs with reason instead of rage, a disciplined, decent leader. But the moment we get one who refuses to shout, we call him weak. It’s as if the Filipino psyche has grown addicted to outrage — mistaking noise for strength, and civility for weakness. Have we become so addicted to noise that we can no longer recognize calm leadership when we see it?
BBM’s call for restraint and respect wasn’t just about politics; it was a reflection of principle. Amid the sea of grandstanding and self-righteous noise, he stood for process and order. He reminded everyone that leadership isn’t about who shouts the loudest, but who stays grounded when emotions run high.
Sadly, many have allowed social media echo chambers to shape their judgment. Narratives are twisted, and intentions are questioned before they’re even understood. The public discourse has become a battleground of hashtags, where decency is dismissed and division is celebrated.
The President’s decision to uphold democracy, even when it’s inconvenient or unpopular, should not be ridiculed — it should be respected. Because in times like these, the true test of leadership isn’t how loud you can fight, but how firmly you can stand in silence for what’s right.
So maybe the real question isn’t “What’s wrong with the President?”
Maybe it’s time we ask, what’s wrong with us, the people?
CONVENIENCE AND QUALITY RARELY GETS TOGETHER!
This simple statement captures a truth we often experience but rarely stop to think about. In today’s fast-paced world, we crave convenience — fast food, instant delivery, quick fixes, and one-click solutions. We want things now, and we’ve built a lifestyle around saving time and effort. But in the process, quality often becomes the casualty.
Convenience gives us accessibility and speed, but quality requires patience, craftsmanship, and attention to detail — things that can’t be rushed. A handcrafted piece of furniture will outlast any flat-pack shelf you can assemble in ten minutes. A home-cooked meal, made with care and fresh ingredients, will always taste better than fast food prepared in seconds. Quality demands commitment; convenience demands efficiency.
When the two do meet — when a product or service manages to be both easy and excellent — it’s often because someone has invested tremendous effort and innovation behind the scenes to make it possible. That’s why such combinations are rare and valuable.
So the next time something seems too convenient, it’s worth asking: What was sacrificed for that ease? Because while convenience makes life smoother, it’s quality that makes life meaningful.
In relation to the controversial flood control anomaly, the saying perfectly when we talk about the filing of cases against those allegedly involved in flood control anomalies. In the rush to show action — to prove to the public that something is being done — authorities sometimes choose convenience over quality. Quick press conferences, hastily prepared complaints, and publicized accusations give the illusion of progress. But without solid evidence, thorough investigation, and due process, those cases often crumble later on.
Filing cases should not be about speed or optics; it should be about truth and accountability. Quality work in building a case takes time — gathering documents, auditing projects, tracing the flow of funds, and ensuring that every piece of evidence can withstand scrutiny in court. Convenience might win headlines today, but quality legal work wins justice tomorrow.
If we want real reform, we must value quality over convenience. Because in governance, as in life, shortcuts often lead us back to where we started — flooded not just by water, but by the consequences of doing things the easy way instead of the right way.

Joel Villanueva and the Corruption Mess: Words vs. Credibility
“Its one thing to talk so well but its a tragedy if no one believes anymore.”
But, if people’s trust are slowly fading away, what value does good words bring?
Dahil nga, it’s one thing to talk so well — but it’s a tragedy if no one believes anymore.
