Vilma Santos-Recto: “Binayaran ko ang Bank mo. Buo. Mahirap yung minimum [interest] lang ang binabayaran mo. Mas lalo kang mababaon. Trenta ka na.”

: “28 lang po.”

: “Kahit na. Kailangan may sarili kang insurance, retirement plan, investments. Iba pa rin yung meron kang financial freedom.”

Freedom can mean a lot of things. But there's that kind we all aim for but few ever achieve.

The kind that allows us to sleep soundly at night, not worrying over what the next day will bring.

The freedom that allows us to confidently pursue our passions, knowing our family and our future are both secure.

This Araw ng Kalayaan, let's celebrate and be grateful for every opportunity to build and provide a better future for ourselves and for our loved ones—one that is secure, worry-free, and with peace of mind.

Employer-subsidized insurance is only good for as long as you’re employed.
If you’re diagnosed with a critical illness, how long do you think your employer will keep you on the payroll? A few months? A year? Maybe less?
The reality is that a serious illness often affects not just your health, but also your ability to work and earn. And the moment your employment ends, the insurance coverage tied to that employment usually ends as well.
Some people assume they can simply apply for their own insurance later if they leave their job. But waiting until you’ve already been laid off or resigned can be risky. By then, your health may have deteriorated, making it harder or more expensive to get coverage—or even causing you to lose insurability altogether.
That’s why employer-provided insurance should be viewed as a benefit, not a long-term financial plan. It’s valuable, but it’s also temporary and conditional. The time when you need insurance the most may be the same time you’re no longer eligible for it.
Relying solely on company coverage is like renting protection. The protection lasts only while the contract does.

This isn’t your usual motivation…

Most people think serious health problems happen to other people.

Until they’re sitting in a hospital hallway wondering how everything changed so fast.

The scary part?

Sometimes it starts quietly.

No warning.
No dramatic symptoms.
Just another normal day.

Then one check-up changes everything.

Doctor: “You have been diagnosed with…”

A lot of us are working hard to build a better future.

But what’s the point of building wealth if your health collapses before you get to enjoy it?

So here’s your reminder:
- Take the walk.
- Eat a little better.
- Get the check-up.
- Build the emergency fund.
- Protect yourself with insurance and an HMO.

Because disease doesn’t care about your age, your plans, your status, or your bank account.

One day, your health will become a priority.

The question is:

Will it be because you chose to prioritize it… or because you no longer have a choice?
