Celebrating Mathematics in Style: International Day of Mathematics at Patria National High School
March 14, 2025
The excitement of International Day of Mathematics (IDM) was palpable at Patria National High School as students came together to celebrate the beauty and creativity of mathematics in a variety of fun and engaging ways. This yearโs theme, "Mathematics, Art, and Creativity," was brought to life in an interactive and enjoyable manner, highlighting the joy and relevance of mathematics in everyday activities.
One of the most exciting and engaging events of the day was the iconic game of Tic-Tac-Toe, which was played in both its traditional board game form and as a life-sized version that took over the school's courtyard. The classic game of strategy and logic was used as a fun way to demonstrate how mathematical thinking can be applied to even the simplest activities.
Students gathered around the classic Tic-Tac-Toe boards, analyzing patterns and strategies, while others were drawn to the larger-than-life version. The life-sized game, where participants became the Xโs and Oโs on a giant grid, encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and quick decision-making, all while emphasizing the importance of strategy and planning.
As students played, their teacher took the opportunity to explain the mathematical concepts behind the gameโsuch as the patterns that emerge and the strategies for winning. The game, which often seems simple, became a teaching moment to explore concepts such as symmetry, probability, and combinatorics, demonstrating that even a casual game can offer a rich mathematical experience.
The combination of traditional and life-sized games fit perfectly within the IDMโs theme of "Mathematics, Art, and Creativity," showcasing how math can be both a tool for solving problems and a source of creativity. By transforming a simple game into a larger-than-life experience, the students of Patria National High School not only enjoyed the day but also deepened their appreciation for how math can enhance and enrich our lives in fun, unexpected ways.
The celebration at Patria National High School was a true reflection of the spirit of IDMโshowing that mathematics isn't just about numbers and equations but also about play, creativity, and problem-solving. Whether it was through the classic board game or the giant version on the field, students learned firsthand how mathematics can be a tool for both learning and enjoyment.
As the day wrapped up, students left with a renewed enthusiasm for math, having seen its creative applications in both the classroom and beyond. The success of the event proved that mathematics, when approached with a sense of fun and curiosity, can spark excitement and wonder.
Patria National High School's celebration of IDM 2025 was an inspiring reminder that math is not just for the classroomโitโs a vibrant part of the world around us, waiting to be explored and enjoyed.

Celebrating the Intersection of Mathematics, Art, and Creativity: The 2025 International Day of Mathematics
March 14, 2025
The 2025 International Day of Mathematics (IDM) brought together the beauty of mathematics, the elegance of art, and the spark of creativity in an exciting celebration of discovery. This yearโs theme, "Mathematics, Art, and Creativity," highlighted the incredible ways in which mathematical principles can shape, inspire, and enhance the creative process. From culinary arts to hands-on construction, students showcased how math can turn ordinary tasks into extraordinary creations.
One of the most captivating parts of this yearโs IDM celebration was a series of cooking presentations where students demonstrated the role of mathematics in the kitchen. The idea of symmetry, proportions, and geometric patterns came to life as students explored how these mathematical concepts can improve the artistry and precision of cooking. Some students illustrated the importance of symmetry in food plating, while others highlighted the use of fractions and ratios in recipe scaling. The demonstrations were not only delicious but also visually stunning, showing that math can be as beautiful as it is practical.
In another unique segment, students ventured into the world of construction, where they combined geometry with craft by building cement flower pots using the concept of circles. The use of circlesโone of the most fundamental shapes in mathematicsโwas central to their designs, demonstrating how geometry can be applied to create both functional and aesthetic pieces of art. Students discussed the importance of circumference, radius, and symmetry in the design of their flower pots, showing how mathematics plays a key role in construction and design.
Throughout the day, the theme of "Mathematics, Art, and Creativity" resonated with everyone involved. From the geometric beauty found in nature to the intricate calculations behind creating a perfect dish or design, the event showcased that creativity and mathematical thinking go hand in hand.
For students and educators alike, the 2025 IDM served as a reminder that math is not confined to textbooks and classrooms. It is woven into the fabric of art, culture, and everyday life. Whether itโs through the symmetry of a plate of food or the structure of a hand-crafted flower pot, math offers endless possibilities for artistic expression.
As we look forward to next yearโs celebrations, the theme of 2025 will undoubtedly serve as a touchstone for future discoveries that continue to highlight the extraordinary connection between mathematics, art, and creativity.
