On June 12, 1898, the Philippine flag was first raised and the national anthem was played, marking the birth of a nation rising with hope, courage, and a hard-won identity shaped by struggle and sacrifice.

Today, we remember not only that historic declaration, but also the bravery of those who fought for independence and the generations who continue to safeguard it. Independence is more than a moment in historyโ€”it is a living responsibility of resilience, unity, and nationhood that we carry as Filipinos. In the face of todayโ€™s challenges and the recent tensions in our political landscape, this serves as a reminder that we live in a democracy where voices rise freely in pursuit of truth and accountability.

Let this be the wake-up call: freedom was never meant to be wasted, nor turned against one another. It was earned through blood, sacrifice, and unityโ€”and must be defended with the same.

Happy Philippine Independence Day!

๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ข๐—ž: A total of 189 maritime students from Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) took the Koninklijke Vereniging van Nederlandse Reders (KVNR) Assessment Examination at the PIT Gymnasium on June 9.

The examinees consist of 83 Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) students and 106 Bachelor of Science in Maritime Transportation (BSMT) students.

The examination started at 9:00 a.m. and concluded at 12:00 noon, administered by KVNR Nova College officials and COMEd faculty members.

The examination serves as part of the pre-selection process for interviews with shipping companies. The selection process will begin next week, while the list of students selected by shipping companies will be announced on June 25.

When asked for his message to the examinees, KVNR-NOVA Project Manager Capt. Evert Van Leeuwen encourages them to remain confident regardless of the outcome of the examination.

โ€œBe confident and try to do your best. But even if you fail, it doesnโ€™t mean that you fail as a person. You just did not pass this exam, and that can have various reasons,โ€ Van Leeuwen said.

Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) conducted a Public Forum and Panel Interview as part of the search for its 8th President, bringing together three aspiring candidates who presented their vision, plans, and commitment to serving the institution at the PIT Gymnasium on June 4.

The event was attended by representatives from various sectors of the academic community, including students, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, alumni, community representatives, and other stakeholders.

In his welcome message, Officer-in-Charge President Dr. Nelson N. Enage underscored the significance of the activity in shaping the future of the Institute. "May this forum serve not only as a venue for presenting credentials and plans, but also as an opportunity to strengthen our collective aspiration for a brighter future," Dr. Enage said.

The introduction of the members of the PIT Search Committee for President followed, led by Atty. Gerald W. Garciano, College Board Secretary-Designate and Secretariat of the Search Committee.

Dr. Feliciana P. Jacoba, Chair of the PIT Search Committee for President, then introduced the candidates and discussed the guidelines and rules of the public forum.

Prior to the presentations, the candidates drew lots to determine the order of appearance. Dr. Claudine L. Igot presented first, followed by Dr. Sonia A. Pajaron, while Dr. Ronald B. Madera took the third slot.

During the first part of the forum, each candidate was given the opportunity to present their credentials, vision and mission, developmental goals for PIT, and commitment to serving the Institute should they be appointed as its next president.

The forum proper followed, where the candidates addressed questions from sectoral representatives and stakeholders. The discussion highlighted their proposed programs, leadership approaches, and plans for advancing the institution. Each candidate also delivered a closing statement outlining why they should be selected to lead PIT.

The activity concluded with closing remarks from Officer-in-Charge Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jennifer A. Gorumba, who expressed optimism for the Institute's future and emphasized the values that continue to guide PIT.

Dr. Gorumba said the search process should strengthen institutional unity and reaffirm the community's commitment to academic excellence, innovation, service, integrity, and transformative leadership.

The public forum formed part of the selection process for the next PIT president, providing stakeholders with an opportunity to assess the qualifications, vision, and leadership capabilities of the contenders vying for the institution's highest administrative post.

Following the public forum, a sectoral meeting and a closed-door panel interview were conducted by the Search Committee in the afternoon at the PIT Balay Alumni.
