On the Third Sunday of Advent, the Church calls us to rejoice, for the coming of the Lord is near. Known as Gaudete Sunday, from the Latin gaudete meaning โ€œrejoice,โ€ this day reminds us that Christian joy is born from hope and trust in Godโ€™s promises. In the midst of our waiting and preparation, we are invited to share this joy through faith, charity, and love, as we await the birth of Christ, our Savior.

Today we celebrate the grace-filled mystery of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, chosen by God and preserved from original sin from the first moment of her conception. In Mary, we see the beauty of Godโ€™s saving plan made perfect by His grace, preparing a pure dwelling for His Son. May her humble โ€œyesโ€ inspire us to live in holiness, trust in Godโ€™s mercy, and say yes to His will each day.

The Immaculate Conception is the Catholic belief that the Blessed Virgin Mary, by a singular grace of God and in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, was preserved free from original sin from the first moment of her conception. This truth was powerfully emphasized in 1830 when Our Lady appeared to St. Catherine Labourรฉ in Rue du Bac, Paris, and revealed the Miraculous Medal, inscribed with the words โ€œO Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee,โ€ helping spread devotion to this belief throughout the world. In 1854, the Church formally proclaimed this belief as dogma through Pope Pius IX, affirming what the faithful had long believed. Just four years later, in 1858, Heaven itself confirmed this teaching at Lourdes, when Mary identified herself to St. Bernadette with the words, โ€œI am the Immaculate Conception.โ€ Finally, at Fatima in 1917, Our Lady revealed the promise connected to her Immaculate Heart: calling humanity to prayer, repentance, and conversion, and assuring the faithful that โ€œIn the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph,โ€ a message of hope, peace, and Godโ€™s ultimate victory over sin.

As we enter the Second Sunday of Advent, we are invited to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ, the Prince of Peace. In a world often filled with noise, fear, and division, Advent reminds us that true peace begins with Godโ€™s presence dwelling within us. Let us follow the call to repentance and hope, making straight the paths for the Lord. May this season teach us to be instruments of Christโ€™s peace within our homes, our communities, and the world.

Today we honor St. Nicholas of Myra, a faithful bishop known for his deep compassion, generosity to the poor, and defense of the true faith. Through his secret acts of charity and loving care for those in need, he reflected the mercy of Christ and taught the world the joy of selfless giving. May his life inspire us to share generously, love sincerely, and serve humbly, especially the poor and the forgotten.

St. Nicholas of Myra was a 4th-century bishop of Myra, in present-day Turkey, widely loved for his holiness, courage, and generosity. From a young age, he used his inheritance to help the poor in secret, especially families in great need. He was a strong defender of the Christian faith, faithfully guiding his people during times of persecution and helping preserve true doctrine in the early Church. Through the many miracles attributed to him, St. Nicholas became known as a protector of children, sailors, travelers, the poor, and all who seek justice. His life of humility, charity, and steadfast faith continues to inspire acts of kindness and selfless love today.

Today, we begin the holy season of Advent, a sacred time of waiting, watching, and hoping for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. As we light the first candle, the Candle of Hope, we are reminded that even in the darkest moments of life, Godโ€™s promise remains alive in our hearts. Advent invites us to slow down, to pray more deeply, and to prepare not just our homes, but our souls for Christโ€™s coming. May this season awaken in us a renewed faith, a deeper love, and a heart ready to welcome Him. As we journey toward Christmas, let us walk in hope, trusting that the Light of the world is already near. Come, Lord Jesus, and make our hearts Your home.

Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle, the first to follow Christ and to lead others to Him. May his faith and courage inspire us to answer Godโ€™s call with generosity and trust.

Saint Andrew the Apostle was a fisherman from Bethsaida and the brother of Saint Peter. He was the first disciple to follow Jesus and was the one who brought others, including his own brother, to Christ. Andrew preached the Gospel in various lands and remained faithful to Jesus until death. He was martyred by crucifixion on an X-shaped cross, which is now called the Cross of Saint Andrew.

HAPPY 31ST SACERDOTAL ANNIVERSARY, Fr. RENIE!
