๐น๐ผ TAIWAN, SEE YOU THIS JULY! ๐ต๐ญ
After years behind the camera, countless shoots, mistakes, lessons, and experiences โ itโs time to share what actually works in the real world of commercial photography.
This is not just about taking beautiful photos.
Itโs about understanding how to create images with purpose, tell stories for brands, work with clients, and build a stronger photography business.
๐ธ JTALAS Commercial Photography Workshop
๐ Hsinchu, Taiwan
๐ July 18โ19, 2026
Organized by the Filipino Photographers Community - Taiwan (Public Group)๐น๐ผ
Letโs learn. Letโs shoot. Letโs grow together.
See you soon, Taiwan photographers! ๐ฅ
X-DEAL DOESNโT MEAN LESS EFFORT.
One mistake I see creatives make:
They accept X-deals because of the opportunityโฆ
then treat it differently because walang cash involved.
โX-deal lang naman.โ
โFree shoot lang naman.โ
Wrong mindset.
Before you say yes to an X-deal, ask yourself:
โKaya ko ba ibigay yung quality na pinangako ko?โ
Because if not โ donโt accept it.
Hindi sila practice client.
The person on the other end is also investing something:
Their time.
Their resources.
Their preparation.
Their trust in your name.
Your responsibility is to meet expectations and handle it professionally.
Because every output you release becomes part of your reputation.
Paid project or X-dealโฆ
Your name is still attached to it.
Choose your commitments wisely.
Then deliver. ๐
Day 3/40: โฑ2,500 โ โฑ250K Gigs
My answer: YES and NO.
YES โ if it gives you something that moves you forward.
A stronger portfolio.
The right connections.
Real experience that prepares you for bigger opportunities.
NO โ if youโre just doing free work hoping someone will notice you.
Exposure without direction is just free labor.
Day 2/40: โฑ2,500 โ โฑ250K Gigs
โBakit wala akong clients?โ
Most photographers think itโs because the market is saturated.
But after 15 years in the industry, I realized it usually comes down to 3 things:
1. Youโre not yet good enough for the clients you want.
And thatโs okay โ skills have levels. Keep improving your craft until your work matches the opportunities youโre chasing.
2. Youโre goodโฆ but nobody knows you exist.
Talent without marketing is invisible. Learn how to sell, communicate your value, and put your work in front of the right people.
3. Youโre showing up in the wrong space.
Your dream clients need to see you where they actually are.
Being good is the foundation.
Being seen creates opportunities.
Master your craft. Build your brand. Find your market.
Sharing 40 lessons from my first โฑ2,500 gig to my first โฑ250K project.

Day 1/40: โฑ2,500 โ โฑ250K Gigs
One of the biggest debates photographers have is:
โDo I need better gear or better skills?โ
After years of shooting commercial campaigns, my answer isโฆ
Youโre asking the wrong question.
Skills will teach you how to create.
Gear will help you execute at a higher level.
The real question is:
โDo I have the right skills to maximize the gear I have?โ
Because an expensive camera with no vision is just an expensive camera.
But strong fundamentals + the right tools?
Thatโs where growth happens.
This is Lesson 1 of 40 lessons I learned from my first โฑ2,500 shoot to landing โฑ250K projects.
Comment JTALAS40 โ Iโm choosing 5 photographers who will get a FREE slot to my Commercial Photography Workshop in Manila this July 15.

I didnโt build my photography business overnight.
Before the bigger clients, bigger shoots, and bigger opportunities โ there were mistakes, doubts, wrong pricing, failed proposals, and lessons I had to learn the hard way.
So for the next 40 days, Iโm sharing the stories, skills, systems, and mindset that helped me build and scale a photography business.
Not just how to take better photos.
But how to:
โ๏ธ price your work with confidence
โ๏ธ find better clients
โ๏ธ create a workflow that works
โ๏ธ build trust as a creative
โ๏ธ turn your skill into a sustainable business
Because pro photographers donโt just create better images โ they build better systems.
And to celebrate my birth month series, Iโm giving away 5 FREE SLOTS to my Commercial Photography Workshop โ Manila this July 15.
Comment JTALAS40 if you want to be one of the 5 photographers joining me.
See you in class. ๐ธ

Gear Talk.๐ฅ๐ท๐ฝ๏ธ
Everyone asks about the camera, lens, or lighting setup.
Pero one of the most important things I bring to a shoot?
A camping chair.
Sounds funny, pero kapag 4AM call time, 14-hour production day, or a 72-hour shoot with broken schedules, youโll understand real quick.
Content creation isnโt always action.
A lot of it is waiting.
Waiting for talent.
Waiting for light.
Waiting for the next setup.
And sometimes, the best gear isnโt the one that helps you create.
Itโs the one that helps you last.
Lowkey one of the hardest lessons in this industry:
Take care of your energy the same way you take care of your gear.
Hindi lahat ng essential may battery.
Some of them just fold up and let you sit for a while.

Some BTS photos from our M-Residences Katipunan reel shoot.
A lot of people only see the final video, but behind every reel are countless small decisions, retakes, problem-solving moments, and a team making things happen.
Good content isnโt just about pressing record. Itโs about finding the right story and bringing it to life.
Grateful to everyone who was part of this shoot. ๐ฌ
