Su Lin Visits China: Why Did the Vietnamese Ambassador to China Describe the Visit as “Historically Significant”?
On April 14, Su Lin, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam, arrived in Beijing to officially begin his state visit to China. This comes just one week after his election as President of Vietnam.
This marks the second time Su Lin has chosen China as his first destination since assuming his new post. In August 2024, Su Lin visited China just 10 days after being appointed General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. This time, he is visiting China in his “dual capacity” as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the State. The convergence of these multiple “firsts” lends the visit significant political weight..

Guangxi’s Cross-Border E-Commerce Imports and Exports with ASEAN Grow by Over 40%
Leveraging the development of comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zones, Guangxi’s cross-border e-commerce trade network now covers more than 220 countries and regions. As a key gateway for China’s opening-up and cooperation with ASEAN, Guangxi has joined forces with commerce departments from 12 western provinces to establish the Western Provinces and Municipalities E-commerce Cooperation Alliance. It continues to expand the “Silk Road E-commerce” cooperation network with ASEAN and has established 10 overseas training bases in six ASEAN countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, to facilitate the alignment of China’s e-commerce models with local market demands in ASEAN, thereby forming a matrix of cross-border cooperation platforms. By 2025, Guangxi’s cross-border e-commerce imports and exports with ASEAN are projected to exceed 40 billion yuan, accounting for 60% of the total and growing by over 20%. In terms of talent development, Guangxi has trained a cumulative total of 14,000 ASEAN e-commerce professionals and hosted three Southeast Asia Cross-Border Live Streaming Talent Competitions. The “Benefiting Enterprises and the People: Cloud Linking ASEAN—2026 Guangxi Silk Road E-commerce Empowerment Initiative,” launched in April of this year, coordinates domestic and international efforts to cultivate ASEAN e-commerce talent and assists ASEAN products in entering the Chinese market.

[Trade] China's Ministry of Commerce Introduces Latest Progress on China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0

On the afternoon of April 5th, China's Ministry of Commerce held a regular press conference. A reporter asked about the latest progress made by the Ministry of Commerce in promoting the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 negotiations, and how China will further deepen cooperation with ASEAN countries in the areas of the digital economy and green economy, particularly in the industrial chain.

In response, He Yadong, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, stated that the Protocol to Upgrade the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 was officially signed on October 28th of last year. The upgraded 3.0 version aligns with new trends in international trade and economic development, and for the first time incorporates emerging fields such as the digital economy, green economy, supply chains, and connectivity into the framework. According to the Protocol, the agreement requires ratification by China and at least five ASEAN member states to enter into force. Currently, China is working with ASEAN member states to expedite the domestic ratification process for the Protocol, striving for its early implementation.

He Yadong further explained, "Regarding your mention of deepening industrial chain cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, China will fully leverage its transportation efficiency, support Chinese digital and new energy companies in cultivating the ASEAN market, and continuously deepen cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, fintech, green equipment, and green power, thereby promoting the deep integration of the production and supply chains."
