𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞s

After the joyous celebration of Pentecost Sunday, the Church returns to Ordinary Time beginning Today, May 25, 2026.

During this time, the Church reflects on the ministry of Christ. His teachings, compassion, miracles, and the call to discipleship.

Ordinary time reminds us that holiness does not only live through feasts, and celebrations, but also in the stillness, quiet, and in the ordinary moments in our daily lives.

SOLEMNITY OF PENTECOST

Today, we celebrate the birth of the Church at Pentecost. When the Holy Spirit descended upon Mary and the disciples.

Book of Acts 2:1-4 RSV-CE
"When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.
And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house they were sitting.
And there appeared to the tongues as of fire, and distributed, and resting on each one of them.
And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."

𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐄𝐌𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐑𝐃

Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. A celebration commemorating the bodily ascension of Christ into Heaven.

After his ressurection, Jesus appeared on to the disciples on several occasions.

One, when Mary Magdalene was outside the tomb. Another instance, when he appears on to the two disciples going to Emmaus, and when he appears on to the seven disciples fishing on the Sea of Tiberias.

40 days after his ressurection, Jesus appears onto the disciples the final time. He directed them to meet him at the Mount of Galilee to a place where Jesus frequents.

Matthew 28:17-20
"When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐋𝐀𝐃𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐅𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐀

On this 13th day of Flores de Mayo we also celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima.

On May 13, 1917, the blessed Virgin Mary appeared before three children; Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta, at Cova de Iria in Fatima, Portugal.

These apparitions brings messages of prayer, penance, and a request to pray thw Rosary for world peace.

On the 13th of October, 1930, the Bishop of Leiria, Bishop Jose Alves da Silva declared the events worthy of belief.

Today, we celebrate all the mothers, those who stands as mothers in each of our families, and even those who serve with motherly love in the Church. We celebrate not only motherhood itself, but the quiet sacrifices, unwavering strength, and unconditional love that mothers show every single day.

The 1st of May marks the start of Flores de Mayo (Flowers of May). A month-long Filipino Catholic celebration celebrated throughout the month of May, honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary.
