What is it like to be the one that lightens a home?

To be the first one awake and the last one to rest. To carry exhaustion quietly while making sure everyone else is cared for. In a Filipino household, a mother is more than a parent perhaps the one always called ‘ilaw ng tahanan’, the light that keeps the family together through hardship, silence, and sacrifice.

A mothers love is found in the smallest and most ordinary moments: warm meals waiting on the table, school uniform neatly ironed before school starts, whispered prayers in the middle of the night, and daily reminders to take care before leaving the house. These may seem simple, yet they are quiet acts of love that often go unnoticed until one realizes how empty a home feels without them.

Behind their gentle smile are sacrifices no one fully sees. Filipino mothers learn how to stretch little things into enough, hide their worries behind comforting words, and remain strong even when life becomes heavy. They carry the emotional weight of the family while asking for almost nothing in return except for their children to be safe, happy, and successful.

A mother is called the ‘Ilaw ng tahanan’ not because she shines the brightest for herself, but because even in her darkest days, she still chooses to brighten her children’s future. And perhaps that is the most painful yet beautiful part of motherhood to continue giving warmth and light even when she herself is already tired.

May we give our mothers the wonderful Mother’s Day they deserve, and may their light never fade in our hearts.

Labor Day often calls attention to the value of work but this year, it also reveals the cost quietly carried by many. As fuel prices continue to strain daily living in the Philippines, the impact is felt most by those whose work depends on movement: drivers calculating each of their earnings carefully, workers adjusting expenses to keep pace, and households rebalancing what once felt sufficient.

What appears a routine on filipino workers: commutes, deliveries, long shifts, now holds an added layer of uncertainty. Earnings stretch thinner, while effort grows heavier. Yet, the loaded of work continues, simply to make ends meet each day.

In recognizing Labor Day today, it becomes just as important to acknowledge these unseen weights, the kind that do not pause for circumstance, but move forward alongside it, mile after mile, carrying the true cost behind every mile.

Showcasing Masbate’s rich cattle industry and culture, the province staged its 30th Rodeo Masbateño Festival from April 10 to 19, 2026, drawing locals and tourists nationwide.

Around 300 cowboys and cowgirls from across the country competed in events such as cattle wrestling, bull riding, bull lasso, steer wrestling, and carambola during the Philippine Rodeo Finals from April 13 to 18.

David Alvarado, the 1991 Intercontinental Bull Riding Champion and award-winning stuntman, said Filipino cowboys are resilient, handling cattle on foot.

Alvarado, who visited the arena to witness the Rodeo Masbateño cattle games, added that he plans to bring foreign bull riders to compete in next year’s celebration to expand the festival’s international reach.

The competition highlights Masbate’s long-standing tradition of cattle handling and the skills of Filipino cowboys.

The festival officially opened with a grand parade last April 13, featuring rodeo riders, officials, horseback riders, and rodeo-themed exhibitions.

LCC Essentials organized the first-ever Miss Rodeo Teen Essentials 2026, featuring 15 candidates who showcased beauty and tradition onstage at the Magallanes Coliseum on April 17, 2026, in celebration of the 30th Rodeo Festival.

Kyla Albao, an alumna of Masbate National Comprehensive High School, representing Barangay Usab, Masbate City, was crowned as the first Miss Rodeo LCC Teen Essentials 2026, also bagging the titles Ms. Penshoppe and Ms. Sassy Colors.

“I believe, as a candidate and a Masbateña, beauty is not seen in physical appearance; it lies from within,” Albao said during the question-and-answer portion.

Aaliyah Nathalie Layman followed as the 1st runner-up, and Riley Christine Tumblod received the title of 2nd runner-up.

Completing the Top 8 finalists were Sweet Ayanna Lim, Charis Celo, Marie Emmiloise Espinosa, Xaime Adelina Serra, and Alyssa Heart Lim.

Furthermore, dominating the pageant roster, 14 of the 15 candidates are alumni or current students of Masbate National Comprehensive High School.

Looking ahead, Albao affirmed that she will continue joining pageants while steadfastly upholding her role and responsibilities as Miss Rodeo Teen Essentials 2026.

After months of intensive training, script revisions, and technical run-throughs, The Ranch TV Scriptwriting and Broadcasting team bagged 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗩 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 at the National Schools Press Conference 2026 held at St. Peter's College of Ormoc, Inc.

Comprising the team are 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗕. 𝗢𝘅𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼, 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗔𝗿-𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗕. 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮, 𝗠𝗲𝗹 𝗝𝗮𝗻 𝗦. 𝗧𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗼, 𝗝𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺 𝗖. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼, 𝗠𝗮. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲 𝗟. 𝗔𝗺𝗼𝗿, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗼 𝗦𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻, 𝗦𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗮 𝗖. 𝗘𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀, who demonstrated strong coordination in delivering a cohesive and well-executed broadcast output.

The team clinched 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, with Adana as the graphics editor and Tamayo as the technical director. Additionally, the team also got the 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁 award, reflecting both their production and writing competence.

In the individual categories, Sianson was hailed the 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, while Oxiano earned 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿. Meanwhile, Espares secured the 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱.

The team carried out the broadcast under the guidance and supervision of coaches 𝗖𝘆𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗮 and 𝗥𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗮, who oversaw the team’s preparation and overall ex*****on.

The team also extends its gratitude to Masbate National Comprehensive High School, led by Marife A. Cañares, and to the Local Government Unit of Masbate City under Ara T. Kho, as well as parents and stakeholders, for their financial support to them as campus journalists.
