Every Filipino family seemed to have its own balikbayan box distribution system. 😂📦

One pile for Lola. Another for Tita. Something for the kids. And Nanay somehow remembered exactly who EVERYTHING belonged to.

Meanwhile, the kids were quietly watching the piles, waiting to hear:

“Eto, para sa’yo.”

Then your cousin opened something better…and suddenly “Palit tayo?” became part of the distribution. 😭😂

The moment that giant taped box appeared, everybody suddenly had somewhere to be. 😂

The chocolates everyone wanted. The SPAM and canned goods. The soaps and toothpaste. Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret for the titas. Clothes that already had somebody’s name on them.

And every kid had the same question:

“May pasalubong ba ako?” 😭🇵🇭

Getting to School Was Already an Adventure 😂🇵🇭

Long before you reached the classroom, the school day had already started.

Some kids squeezed into a tricycle with their siblings. Some rode the jeepney trying to keep their uniforms neat. Others had a school service that seemed to stop at every house in the neighborhood. 😂

You saw the same sleepy faces every morning, somebody was probably still eating breakfast, and the streets got busier with students the closer you got to school.

Then you finally reached the gate…

…and remembered what you left at home. 😭

Going to SM Was a Whole-Day Adventure as a Kid

You weren’t just “going to the mall.”

You were following your parents through what felt like an eternity of shopping while secretly waiting for the important stops: Toy Kingdom. Timezone. The food court.

And somehow, the second Nanay said “Jollibee tayo,” you weren’t tired anymore. 😂

Then after all that excitement? Someone was probably asleep before you even got home.

You could always tell when a Filipino family was spending the day at a resort.

The vehicle was packed. The cottage looked like everyone had moved in. There was enough food to feed twice the number of people who actually came. Someone eventually found the videoke microphone. And the kids somehow had unlimited energy…until it was time to go home. 😂

Whether your family went to Batangas, Laguna, Pansol, a beach resort, or the neighborhood swimming pool, everybody seemed to have their own version of this day.

Nobody Actually Slept at Filipino Cousin Sleepovers 😂

You went to your cousin’s house expecting to stay for the day…and somehow ended up spending the night.

Next thing you knew, mattresses and banig were on the floor, pillows had been stolen from every room, and five cousins were trying to fit into a space meant for two.

Then came the warning every cousin group knew:

“Matulog na kayo!”

Everyone suddenly became an angel.

For about 30 seconds. 😂

Tag the cousin who ALWAYS started talking again after everyone was supposed to be asleep.

Filipino Kids Knew: NEVER Lose Mom’s Tupperware


Some Filipino household rules were never officially explained. You just knew. 😂

That food container might leave the house with your baon, travel to a birthday party, or somehow end up at your Tita’s house, but Nanay expected it back.

Years later, it’s funny how an ordinary plastic container can unlock such a specific childhood memory.

There was always a mysterious category of belongings in a Filipino home that everyone knew existed…but the family barely touched. 😂

The good glasses. The fancy plates. Those suspiciously perfect towels. Then someone said “May bisita!” and suddenly the house entered presentation mode.

Years later, it’s funny how something so ordinary can bring back such specific memories of growing up Filipino.
