Do video games make kids violent? No, they don't.

It's a debate as old as the medium itself. We heard it in the early 2000s, we still hear it today, and every time a violent incident happens, video games somehow find themselves back in that convo.

The problem is that the claim simply isn't supported by decades of research. Study after study has failed to establish a meaningful causal link between playing video games and committing real-world violent acts. If anything, the scientific consensus points to a far more complicated picture than the simplistic "games cause violence" narrative ever suggests.

What makes this discussion frustrating is how often it distracts from deeper issues.

Blaming video games is easy. It creates a convenient villain. It shifts attention away from the REAL social, economic, cultural, and political factors that shape behavior in the Philippines.

If you ask me, the real question isn't whether video games make people violent. It's whether we've become too comfortable with violence itself.

Supergirl was super mid, and that's okay.

The performances, SFX, and VFX are easily the film's biggest strengths. Unfortunately, a weak story, uneven pacing, and a forgettable villain just don't cut it in 2026.

The cast deserved a better movie. There isn't one glaring issue that sinks the experience. Instead, it's a collection of smaller problems that slowly pile up.

The villain never feels compelling enough for the stakes or the characters involved, and the script repeatedly finds ways to depower Kara just to keep everyone on equal footing. Doing that once or twice is understandable, but it happens so often that it starts to feel less like a plot device and more like an obstacle to the story's momentum.

One thing is certain: Milly Alcock is Supergirl. She absolutely embodies the character. The attitude, confidence, and overall vibe feel perfectly suited for this new DC Universe. That's what makes it frustrating. It feels like a missed opportunity to showcase her in a story worthy of that performance. Side note, I feel like Kara and the movie deserved a better film score? The previous Superman had a much memorable film score.

To be fair, the third act is easily the movie's strongest stretch. There's genuine excitement and energy once everything finally clicks into place. The problem is getting there. The road to that finale can feel like a slog, and the pacing does little to help.

Supergirl is super mid, but that's okay.

It's the sophomore entry in James Gunn's DCU, it's easier to walk away hopeful than disappointed. If nothing else, it feels like a learning experience the franchise can build from moving forward.

Independent film studio A24 is facing criticism after announcing a new partnership with Google that includes a $75 million investment and access to the company’s DeepMind AI research and infrastructure.

According to reports, the deal will allow A24 to work with DeepMind researchers to develop new filmmaking workflows, with AI expected to play a role in parts of the creative and production process.

One of the most vocal critics has been actress and director Justine Bateman, who called the partnership “disappointing” on social media.

She pointed to the irony of A24 embracing AI shortly after the success of Backrooms, a film directed by Kane Parsons, whose work has often been viewed as a celebration of human creativity over automation.
