Haft Kul
📍Tajikistan
I was able to see 6 of the 7 fabled lakes of Tajikistan. The 7th lake was unfortunately inaccessible.
Each lake is carrying its own story (photo 1-6):
1. Marguzor – “meadow” or “grassland”
It is supposed to be surrounded by lush, green landscapes, during summer.
2. Khurdak – “small” or “little”
It is one of the smaller, quieter lakes. There is a village nearby, and I was able to interact with some local kids in the area.
3. Nofin – meaning is less certain, but often associated with a local village name rather than a direct translation.
4. Hushyor – “alert” or “watchful”
A lake that feels alive and observant.
5. Soya – “shade” or “shadow”
Named for the way mountains cast shadows over the water.
6. Mijgon (Nezhigon) – “eyelashes”
Said to resemble delicate eyelashes, possibly from the reeds or reflections.

Reflection of Registan
📍 Samarkand, Uzbekistan
Registan Square in Samarkand Registan Square, where the rain turned the ground into a mirror. Surrounded by the madrasahs of Ulugh Beg Madrasah, Sher-Dor Madrasah, and Tilya-Kori Madrasah. A historic square that once stood at the center of learning and still impresses today.

Lake Kaindy
Hidden in the mountains, Lake Kaindy is famous for its eerie “sunken forest,” where tall spruce trees rise from the turquoise water after being submerged by the 1911 Kebin earthquake. A surreal and unforgettable sight in the heart of the Tian Shan Mountains in Kazakhtan.
