JUNE ARTIST OF THE MONTH: ROBYN M

At just 16 years old, Manila based singer songwriter Robyn M is already building a catalog that feels thoughtful, personal, and remarkably self-assured. What began during the pandemic as a family pastime slowly turned into something much bigger. Alongside her parents and younger brother, Robyn spent quarantine days covering artists like Paramore, Hole, Taylor Swift, The Beatles, Francis M, and Red Hot Chili Peppers through their YouTube channel, The Jam House. Somewhere between those family jam sessions, she found her own voice.

By the age of 13, Robyn had already written a collection of original songs that convinced her family to help turn their living room into a home recording studio. Together, they recorded instruments, vocals, and produced her music completely from home. In 2024, she released her debut single “Summertime,” marking the start of a growing discography that now spans 11 singles, including her latest releases and a brand new music video this May.

What makes Robyn stand out is her songwriting. While many artists write directly from personal experience, Robyn also draws inspiration from books, stories, and fictional characters. Her songs often feel like snapshots from different lives and perspectives, giving her music a depth and emotional maturity far beyond her years.

Influenced by artists such as Paramore, Alanis Morissette, David Bowie, Hole, Reese Lansangan, Kitchie Nadal, and Cynthia Alexander, Robyn continues to shape a sound that feels both familiar and distinctly her own.

She has also become a regular presence in the Metro Manila live circuit, performing at venues such as 19 East, SaGuijo, 12 Monkeys, 70s Bistro, and more, often backed by the very same family who helped spark her musical journey. It is rare to see an artist grow in real time with this much heart behind them.
