𧱠Wednesdays in SPACE Feature #7: PointARs
Teaching Pointers Using Augmented Tangible Blocks
π Pointers ka ba diyan?
If youβve ever struggled with understanding memory, variables, and pointers in programming, youβre not alone. For many novice coders, these concepts are notoriously hard to grasp.
Thatβs where PointARs comes inβan interactive learning system that uses tangible blocks and projection mapping to visualize how pointers work in memory.
We asked:
π‘ Can augmented tangible tools help learners understand abstract CS concepts more intuitively?
π Can we reduce cognitive load while improving comprehension and engagement?
π§ Through a study comparing traditional lecture notes, visuals-only, and our augmented tangible setup, PointARs showed improvements in user experience and cognitive processing, especially on tough topics like pointer dereferencing and memory allocation.
β¨ Itβs pointers, but with a twist of AR.
π Swipe through to see how blocks, projections, and playful learning can reshape how we teach computer science.
βοΈ There will be no Wednesday's in SPACE feature for now. The last feature for this term wil be announced next week, if weather permits.
π§οΈ In the mean time, check the our recent features. Stay safe everyone!

π Wednesdays in SPACE Feature #6:
Set the Stage Enabling Storytelling with Multiple Robots through Roleplaying Metaphors
β¨ What if you were the director of your own robot-powered play?
Or a puppeteer commanding motion through touch?
Or a wizard casting commands with a wave?
Set the Stage explores how we can control multiple robots through grasp-based gestures, guided by imaginative roleplaying metaphors:
π¬ The Director choreographs the scene
𧡠The Puppeteer pulls the strings
πͺ The Wizard conjures other elements in the environment
We ask:
π€ How can roleplay inspire richer, more intuitive ways to interact with robots?
π¨ Can playful metaphors unlock expressiveness and creativity in multi-robot control?
From expressive gestures to collaborative performances, Set the Stage opens up new frontiers for creative human-robot interaction, not just for tasks, but for stories.
π Watch how our roles come to life, and if youβve ever wanted to command a robot army (creatively, of course), tara, play with us!

π Wednesdays in SPACE Feature #5: RoutScape
Exploring Shared Extended Reality Experiences for Flood Emergency Response Planning
How do we plan for floods when lives and time are on the line?
And more importantly, how do we plan together?
π‘ Meet RoutScape, an XR system designed to help local government units (LGUs) and disaster response teams co-create, visualize, and simulate flood emergency plans in shared, immersive space.
We asked:
π How can extended reality support collaborative sensemaking for flood risk management?
π€ Can immersive tools help bridge the gaps between DRRM councils, responders, and communities?
Built with input from LGUs across Bacoor, Pasig, Marikina, and Quezon City, and even UP Resilience Institute, RoutScape was co-designed to bring flood maps, population data, and evacuation plans into one interactive system making emergency planning more visual, hands-on, and team-driven.
From terrain to topography, from simulation to gesture control, this is local disaster planning reimagined.
π΅π Designed by and with the people who keep our cities safe.
π Scroll through to see how XR can change the way we prepare for climate risks. And if you're working in DRRM, civic tech, or XR research, tara, collaborate with us!

π· Wednesdays in SPACE Feature #4: MetaMelodies
Teaching Jazz Improvisation in eXtended Reality
πΉ What if you could learn jazz improvisation not just by playing... but by experiencing it?
Improvisation is one of the most personal, expressive parts of learning piano, but itβs often the least explored in traditional XR music tools.
Thatβs why we created MetaMelodies: a Mixed Reality training system designed to teach jazz piano improvisation through experiential learning. Instead of focusing only on technique, MetaMelodies encourages learners to explore creativity, emotion, and musical confidence in real time.
We ask:
π How can we design XR systems that teach improvisation not just mechanics?
πΆ Can we create more meaningful, playful, and expressive learning journeys in music?
MetaMelodies hopes to unlock new ways to engage with jazz through embodied, interactive learning.
π Stay tuned as we blend the science of learning with the soul of jazz.
And if youβre curious to jam in MR, tara, try with us!
