Philippine Normal University (PNU) President Dr. Bert J. Tuga led a team of experts from the university in facilitating the validation phase of the Project Teach for PEACE modules in the province of Northern Samar. Project TP is a 3-in-1 program that addresses literacy issues while integrating peace education concepts and socio-emotional learning.
From May 18 to 19, 2026, Dr. Tuga and his teamโcomposed of Dr. Maria Azela Tamayo, Dr. Jayson L. De Vera, and Prof. Victor P. Estrellaโvisited Cablangan Elementary School in Mondragon, Northern Samar, to pilot-test and gather feedback on the use of the new learning materials. These modules aim to promote global citizenship, social cohesion, and inclusive learning, particularly among children and youth in vulnerable and conflict-affected communities. Feedback from the validation run will serve as vital input in the finalization of the modules in preparation for their official turnover to partner communities.
The project is an initiative of the GCED Cooperation CentreโPhilippines, in partnership with the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP), led by University President Dr. Cherry I. Ultra, and the Provincial Government of Northern Samar, under the leadership of Governor Harris Ongchuan. This initiative is also supported and funded by the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (UNESCO-APCEIU).
Ultimately, the successful rollout of these modules signifies a crucial step toward building resilient, peace-loving communities. By equipping educators and youth with tailored resources for socio-emotional and peace education, this multi-sectoral partnership lays a strong foundation for sustainable development and lasting social harmony.

In a world shaped by diverse cultures, beliefs, and stories, peace begins in the small things: in listening without judgment, in choosing kindness, and in building bridges where there were once divides.
Let us continue to create spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and valuedโbecause living together in peace starts with each of us. ๐โจ

On this ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ฎ๐บ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐, we celebrate the different kinds of families that give us love, care, and support. Families may look different, but they are all important. They are where we first learn to be kind, to respect others, and to understand the world around us.
Through these everyday moments, families help shape people who care for others and take part in building a peaceful and fair community. These are the same values we share in Global Citizenship Educationโrespect, understanding, and unity.
Today, let us appreciate our families and continue to create spaces where everyone feels safe, valued, and included.

The Project Citizen BAYANI Writeshop, held from April 30 to May 2 at Lucky Chinatown Hotel, gathered selected mentors in a focused training session designed to strengthen their facilitation and mentoring skills. As part of the programโs cascading approach, the writeshop equipped mentors with the necessary tools, frameworks, and strategies to effectively guide teachers in implementing Project Citizen in their respective schools.
Through structured writing activities, collaborative discussions, and practical exercises, participants refined their understanding of the Project Citizen process and enhanced their capacity to support teacher training. The activity emphasized the critical role of mentors in ensuring quality delivery and sustainability of civic education initiatives.
