Strengthen the Frontliners
March 13,2020--The Philippines officially declared to be on have Manila under lock down due to having its first case of COVID 19 in the city of San Juan. In two months time, 810 people have been declared positive for the virus and as days go by it continue to rise. The only line of defense our country has are our doctors, nurses and medical personnels--our frontliners. Unfortunately, the Philippine government is not prepared enough to handle this situation. Leaving frontliners unequipped with Personal Protective Equipments.
Project Protect is a non-profit organization spearheaded by the couple Billy and Fatima Loo. Fatima is a former government nurse in the Philippines. After the lock down was declared she saw the need to protect her colleagues due to the lack of PPE’s that were not provided for them. Together with her husband Billy, they decided to step out of their house to donate face masks and disinfectants and dispatch them directly to the hospital she used to work for. After posting their photos online, they eventually started their fundraising called Project Protect. Two days after they announced it, they were able to raise funds enough to provide for three hospitals. In a few days, they were also able to collaborate with other non-profit organizations which allowed them to dispatch bulks of PPE’s in six more hospitals in one With Fatima’s direct connections to the frontliners of different hospitals, every donation sent is directly dispatch to the areas that need it the most. Since then, people have continuously donated and the couple have officially made this a project, hence, PROJECT PROTECT.
