On this Day, the 702nd Infantry โDEFENDERโ Brigade joins the nation in commemorating National Flag Day, a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of our forefathers in the pursuit of Philippine independence.
The Battle of Alapan, fought on 28 May 1898 in Imus, Cavite, marked General Emilio Aguinaldoโs first major military victory following his return from exile. The five-hour engagement ended in the surrender of the Spanish garrison, becoming a decisive turning point in the Philippine Revolution.
In the aftermath of this historic triumph, the Philippine Flag was publicly unfurled for the first time, becoming a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and the Filipino peopleโs enduring desire for freedom.
Today, 28 May is observed nationwide as National Flag Day, marking the beginning of the countryโs Independence Day celebrations leading to 12 June.
As defenders of the people, the men and women of the 702IBde reaffirms its commitment to uphold values embodied by our flag, honor, courage, integrity, and dedicated service to the Nation.
