The Boracay Bridge project is set to advance as part of the national government’s major pipeline initiatives included in the 2026 National Budget. Construction of the structure now has a strong chance of proceeding.

The Department of Budget and Management has approved over ₱1 billion for the Department of Public Works and Highways under the Public-Private Partnership Support Fund. The allocation will accelerate priority projects funded by the private sector, covering costs such as right-of-way acquisition and other government-guaranteed expenses.

More than 21 projects are included in the fund, with the Boracay Bridge among them. San Miguel Holdings Corporation first submitted an unsolicited proposal for the ₱8-billion project, which would link Boracay island to mainland Malay.

The local government strongly opposes the aforementioned project because of the significant impact on the environment, the livelihood, and economic well-being of the island.
