๐ข The wait is over, MNHSians! Itโs finally time to reveal the answer to last weekโs "๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฝ๐ผ?" challenge! ๐คฉ
Word Problem:
On a sunny day, a 4 meter tall light pole casts a 5 meter long shadow at the same time a nearby building casts a 15m long shadow.The sun rays strike both the building and the light pole at the same angle.
In this case find the height of the building.
Step by step solutions:
Using the triangle proportionality theorem
Length of building shadow: 15 meters
Height of the light pole: 4 meters
Length of light pole shadow: 5 meters
Let x be the building height
Building height/Building shadow. =. light pole height/Light pole shadow
X/15. = 4/5
Then cross multiply
5x = 60
Divide both side by 5
x = 12
So the building height is equal to 12 meters

Word Problem:
A rectangular garden has an area of 48 square meters. Its length is 2 meters longer than its width.
What are the length and width of the garden? ๐ฑ๐
Did your answer match the correct one? Letโs find out! ๐
Solution:
Let x = the width of the garden.
Since the length is 2 meters longer:
Length = x + 2
Using the formula for the area of a rectangle:
A = length ร width
Substitute the given area:
48 = x(x + 2)
Expand:
48 = xยฒ + 2x
Rearrange into standard quadratic form:
xยฒ + 2x โ 48 = 0
Factor:
(x + 8)(x โ 6) = 0
Set each factor equal to zero:
x + 8 = 0
x = โ8
x โ 6 = 0
x = 6
Since a measurement cannot be negative, we use:
x = 6
Therefore:
Width = 6 meters
Length = 6 + 2 = 8 meters
โ
Final Answer: The garden is 8 meters long and 6 meters wide.

Word Problem:
A 13-meter ladder is leaning against a vertical wall. The foot of the ladder is 5 meters away from the wall.
How high up the wall does the ladder reach? ๐ช
Did your answer match the correct one? Letโs find out! ๐
Solution:
This problem forms a right triangle, where:
* The ladder is the hypotenuse (c = 13m)
* The distance from the wall is the base (a = 5m).
* The height up the wall is the unknown side (b = ?)
Using the Pythagorean Theorem:
aยฒ + bยฒ = cยฒ
Substitute the given values:
5ยฒ + bยฒ = 13ยฒ
Square each known value:
25 + bยฒ = 169
Subtract 25 from both sides:
bยฒ = 144
Take the square root of both sides:
b = 144 โ> b = โ144
b โ = 12
Therefore, the ladder reaches ๐ญ๐ฎ ๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ up the wall.

โ๏ธIt's time to reveal the long awaited answer from last week's "๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐?" ๐ซข
Word Problem:
A 4-inch by 6-inch photograph was enlarged by increasing each side by the same amount. The new area of the photo is 168 square inches.
๐ง Did you identify how many inches was each dimension increased?
Scroll down to check your answer! ๐
Solution:
Let x = the amount each side of the photo is increased.
Then, x + 4 = the new width and x + 6 = the new length.
Since Area = length ร width, the formula using the new area is
(x + 4)(x + 6) = 168.
Multiply using the distributive property on the left side of the equation then simplify:
(x + 4)(x + 6) = 168
xยฒ + 6x + 4x + 24 = 168
xยฒ + 10x + 24 = 168.
Subtract 168 from both sides and simplify:
xยฒ + 10x + 24 โ 168 = 168 โ 168.
xยฒ + 10x โ 144 = 0.
Factor the trinomial:
(x โ 8)(x + 18) = 0.
Set each factor equal to zero and solve:
(x โ 8)(x + 18) = 0
x โ 8 = 0
x = 8
x + 18 = 0
x = โ18
Reject the negative solution because you canโt have a negative dimension. Therefore, each dimension of the photo is increased by ๐ด ๐๐ก๐๐๐๐ฆ.

Math Lingap 2025 was a heartwarming celebration of kindness, caring, and sharing. The gifts given to our students came from the donations of their fellow students during the โDonate and Participateโ event held from December 1 to 3. Each item was carefully repacked to make sure it would bring happiness, encouragement, and smiles to a total of 48 students.
And a heartfelt thank you to Grade 10 - Mei Gui for their kindness and generosity! Your thoughtful gifts brought so much joy and happiness to our SNED students, making their day extra special.
This showed that even small acts of giving can make a big difference. It was not just about giving gifts, but about showing love, thoughtfulness, and support for one another. Seeing the studentsโ bright smiles, hearing their words of thanks, and feeling their excitement made the day truly special and unforgettable. Math Lingap 2025 reminded everyone that sharing and caring for others can create joy, build stronger connections, and make our school community feel like one big family. ๐๐
Letโs look back at the fun, excitement, and learning during MathFiesta: MathSaya 2025! For three successful days, students joined many activities that showed their skills, creativity, and love for math. From the opening ceremony and the cheerful ChristMath jingle, to the challenging DaMath games, slogan making, Rubikโs cube challenges, and the thrilling Math Olympics, every moment was filled with teamwork, learning, and fun. The celebration continued with the Math Fair, poster making, Tower of Hanoi, Sudoku, Quiz Bee, and ended with Math Bingo, leaving everyone with smiles and unforgettable memories. Each day was full of energy, laughter, and joy, as students learned, competed, and supported each other in every activity.
We would like to thank our MathIniks adviser, MathIniks officers, math teachers, volunteers, sponsors, other subject teachers, the principal, assistant principal, and of course, all the students who joined. Your support, hard work, and participation made MathFiesta: MathSaya 2025 a truly special and successful event. This recap video brings back all the happy moments and reminds us of the fun, teamwork, and love for math that everyone shared! ๐๐โจ
