Product Design for Schoolboys

“As the pupils get older,” says Phil Hall, who teaches product design at Windsor Boys’ School, “they see the printer not only as having a wow factor (a novelty) but as being really useful, especially when it comes to making prototypes to take to clients.” Hall has his students learn Autodesk Inventor, since they “can only really realize the potential of the 3D printers once they have learnt how to use a CAD modeling package.” (Windsor Boys’ School via 3dprint.com)

A Better Grip

David Bursell of Lund University’s School of Industrial Design created prosthetic hand for mountain climbing with fully functional fingers that grip with elbow movement. Pressure locks the fingertips into place, so a climber can extend the arm to rest. Prototypes were developed using a MakerBot Replicator. (via Instagram)
