-National Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Award 2024

In December 2024, Luna was recognized at the national level for its outstanding efforts in combating illegal drugs, showcasing effective local anti-drug programs and community engagement.

-Most Environmentally Friendly Municipality

Luna earned this title in a provincial competition, receiving a ₱300,000 cash priz. The award highlighted the municipality's initiatives in waste reduction, energy conservation, green infrastructure, and community participation in environmental programs.

🚍 Transportation and Infrastructure

- First LGU in CAR to Receive DOTr Compliance for Safe Transportation

In early 2024, Luna became the first local government unit in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) to receive a Notice of Compliance from the Department of Transportation (DOT)This was in recognition of its approved Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP), aligning with the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP)

- 2024 Apayao Provincial Athletic Meet Champions

Brief History of Luna, Apayao (for educational purposes)

Luna, officially the Municipality of Luna, is a second-class municipality in the province of Apayao, Philippines. As of the 2020 census, it has a population of 21,297 people. The municipality covers a land area of 606.04 square kilometers, which constitutes 13.46% of Apayao's total area. Luna serves as the de facto capital of Apayao, housing the provincial capitol and related offices at the New Apayao Government Center.

Historically, Luna was formerly known as Macatel. In the early 1900s, Antonino Barroga from Dingras, Ilocos Norte, explored the area with Bernardo Arnedo and an Aeta guide, leading to the establishment of the settlement. The area was officially designated as a municipal district in 1929 through Executive Order No. 200 and was later renamed Luna in honor of General Antonio Luna. Today, Luna comprises 22 barangays, including Poblacion, which serves as the town center.
