Great news for patients with high, uncontrolled blood pressure with difficulty in drug compliance. A novel and investigational anti-hypertensive drug called Zilebesiran is now on Phase 3 trials. Zilebesiran targets a serum glycoprotein in the liver called Angiotensinogen that is involved in the hypertension cascade by interfering with its RNA. It can be administered through injection subcutaneously with maximum systolic and diastolic reduction for 6 months. It can be used as a stand alone or an adjunct to existing treatment modality. No more daily intake of tablets and capsules and the cumbersome seething of medications in multi-medication regimens! Wow!
