Self-talk like practicing self-introduction is a very powerful tool that can not only help you greatly improve your language skills, but also improve other areas in your life.

Self-talk can help you:

Practice the language anytime you want.
Talk about anything you want.
Memorize new words and phrases more easily.
Get comfortable with the language.
Speak faster.
Sound more natural.
Find new words and phrases to learn.

At Jinchi, we’ve found that talking to ourselves in another language can be really useful as we try to improve our speaking skills.
Let's learn more about Grant-san as he introduces himself confidently in Japanese after studying for only two months with Jinchi as an absolute beginner.

Pronunciation can be quite tricky when learning a new language, especially for adults. You’ll have to replicate lots of new strange sounds that are completely unknown to you. The language you are learning may have the same alphabet, but some letters will have an entirely different pronunciation. This can be confusing in the beginning, because it looks like words are not pronounced the way they should.

Why is it important? One of the reasons is that Pronunciation forces you to listen to speakers more carefully, focusing on how they make the right sounds when they speak. By listening to how natural sentences sound, you are more likely to make them yourself. Besides, the more you listen to these sentences, the easier it becomes for you to understand and get used to them.

Recording your voice and then listening back to it has lots of benefits when working on improving your speaking. It’s only when we can listen back to something we have said that we get a real understanding of our fluency, accuracy and naturalness.

While speaking, we may be aware of little grammatical mistakes we make or that we feel more fluent in some parts of the conversation we are having than at others. We won’t be aware of more than this though because speaking and thinking what to say next takes up most of our brain’s capacity.

In this video, Arleen-san who studied with Jinchi for only two months or 64 hours was able to take advantage of self recording with her self-introduction practice in Japanese Language while inviting everyone to be her friend. 😊

Motivation plays a significant role in the process of learning a language. Language teachers cannot effectively teach a language if they do not understand the relationship between motivation and its effect on language acquisition. The core of motivation is what might be called passion, which relates to a person's intrinsic goals and desires.

Successful learners know their preferences, their strengths and weaknesses, and effectively utilize strengths and compensate for weaknesses. Successful language learning is linked to the learner’s passion. And instructors should find ways to connect to this passion.

Self-introduction is going to help language learners to speak more naturally, feel more comfortable as you are saying the words and the sounds and connecting those things together.

Jinchi emphasizes the importance of practicing self-introduction out loud until students nail it. In this video, after studying for two months with Jinchi, Deni-san introduces herself and her interests in Nihongo to be able to leave a great first impression with Japanese people that she will meet in the future.

Students in the digital 21st century have been brought up in a culture dominated by visuality. With a critical eye, students learn that artworks often tell stories. The art shifts the focus from the self-conscious learner to the work of art.

Multilingual learners use and develop language through activities that intentionally integrate multiple modalities, including oral, written, visual, and kinesthetic modes of communication (WIDA, 2020). Visual stimulation promotes active exploration of the language. Language and art can be used together productively (Vasquez, 2018).
