BURNING WASTE, BURNING QUESTIONS 🔥🚮

Bacolod City is planning a Waste-to-Energy (WTE) project that would generate electricity from residual waste. While the technology is often presented as a modern waste solution, it also raises serious concerns about pollution, toxic chemicals like dioxins, climate impacts, and risks to public health. 😷 As discussions continue, understanding what WTE is and how it works becomes crucial for communities affected by these decisions. 🚜🏘️

This International Women’s Month, we celebrate the strength, leadership, and dedication of women who continue to shape our campus and our planet.

From leading environmental initiatives to raising awareness on climate action, women in our community have shown that caring for the Earth is also an act of courage and leadership. Their voices, ideas, and actions inspire meaningful change—not only within the university but also in the communities we serve.

At the Central Philippines State University, women play a vital role in advancing sustainability through the Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment (NICE). Their efforts in promoting environmental awareness, climate responsibility, and community engagement in different platforms that reminds us that the fight for a better future is stronger when women lead.

The Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment (NICE) formally turned over a letter to Hon. Alfredo Abelardo "Albee" Benitez today, urging transparency on Bacolod’s proposed Waste-to-Energy project, which the group says runs contrary to the former mayor's vision of a "Super City." The move comes as the City Government has yet to respond to earlier requests for disclosure of project documents and public consultations, prompting the group to further their call for accountability.
