Earth Day is not just a celebration; it is a moment to reflect on the realities our planet is facing and the role we play in shaping its future. ๐๐ณ
From the energy behind our digital habits to the waste we generate and the systems we support, our everyday choices are more connected to environmental and climate issues than we think. These impacts may seem small on their own, but collectively, they shape the world we live in. ๐
This Earth Day ๐, may we not only celebrate but also question, reflect, and act. Because caring for the Earth is not a one-day commitment, but a responsibility we carry every day. โ๐ผ๐ซง๐

BURNING WASTE, BURNING QUESTIONS ๐ฅ๐ฎ
Bacolod City is planning a Waste-to-Energy (WTE) project that would generate electricity from residual waste. While the technology is often presented as a modern waste solution, it also raises serious concerns about pollution, toxic chemicals like dioxins, climate impacts, and risks to public health. ๐ท As discussions continue, understanding what WTE is and how it works becomes crucial for communities affected by these decisions. ๐๐๏ธ
โWe need climate finance for two main things: reparations and preparations. It is now time for us to be compensated for the loss and damage," says John Dyrick Dormis, Deputy Secretary-General of Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment (NICE).
The Philippines remains as the worldโs most at-risk country to climate change and disasters in the 2025 World Risk Index (WRI). This tells us that we need climate finance and we need it now more than ever.
Join NICE and Oxfam Pilipinas in drawing the line for hope and justice for frontline communities in the Philippines and the world.

This International Womenโs Month, we celebrate the strength, leadership, and dedication of women who continue to shape our campus and our planet.
From leading environmental initiatives to raising awareness on climate action, women in our community have shown that caring for the Earth is also an act of courage and leadership. Their voices, ideas, and actions inspire meaningful changeโnot only within the university but also in the communities we serve.
At the Central Philippines State University, women play a vital role in advancing sustainability through the Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment (NICE). Their efforts in promoting environmental awareness, climate responsibility, and community engagement in different platforms that reminds us that the fight for a better future is stronger when women lead.
Today and every day, we honor the passion, resilience, and commitment of women who continue to protect our environment and champion climate justice. ๐ฑโจ

The Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment (NICE) formally turned over a letter to Hon. Alfredo Abelardo "Albee" Benitez today, urging transparency on Bacolodโs proposed Waste-to-Energy project, which the group says runs contrary to the former mayor's vision of a "Super City." The move comes as the City Government has yet to respond to earlier requests for disclosure of project documents and public consultations, prompting the group to further their call for accountability.
More details to follow.

Today we mark the 7th anniversary of Executive Order 19-08, declaring Negros Occidental coal-free; a historic stand for a clean, sustainable energy future ๐ฑ
Negros has chosen a path away from dirty, harmful energy. Letโs continue defending this vision with transparency, community action, and environmental responsibility ๐
NICE commits to upholding and advancing this coal-free vision, ensuring that our communities, our environment, and future generations continue to benefit from clean, sustainable, and responsible energy practices. Together, we will keep this commitment alive โ
Letโs hear from Katherine, a female youth leader from Bacolod City, as she shares why we formally submitted our statement on the proposed Waste-to-Energy project, and why our voices must be part of decisions that shape our cityโs future.
