BASC - Peer Group Facilitators

‎On 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, a 𝐃𝐫𝐮𝐠 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦 was successfully conducted at the BaSC Gymnasium, with 3rd Year students as participants. The activity aimed to strengthen awareness on the harmful effects of illegal drugs and promote informed, responsible decision-making among the youth.

‎The symposium featured three distinguished resource speakers who shared their expertise in their respective fields:

‎• 𝐌𝐬. 𝐉𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐲𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐈. 𝐏𝐞ñ𝐚𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐫, Nurse 1 / City Health Officer, City of Isabela, who discussed the Health Risks and Effects of Substance Abuse;
‎• 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛 𝐒. 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐩, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Officer, who tackled Drug Prevention, Awareness, and Enforcement of Anti-drug Laws; and
‎• 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐚 𝐀. 𝐀𝐛𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐣𝐢𝐝, Attorney IV, Provincial Agrarian Reform Adjudicator, who explained the Legal Implications and Consequences of Drug-related Offenses.

‎Their insightful discussions greatly contributed to the knowledge and awareness of the participants, making the symposium both engaging and impactful.

‎The success of this event was made possible through the guidance and leadership of 𝐌𝐬. 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐔𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, Guidance and Counselling Director of BaSC with the partnership of the Office of the Student Affairs led by 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐧 𝐇. 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐣𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐬, whose both dedication ensured the smooth and meaningful conduct of the program.

‎This initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to fostering a well-informed, responsible, and drug-free student community.

𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆, 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.💙

On January 23, 2025, during our Peer Group Facilitators' Seminar held at Basilan State College- Guidance and Counseling Office, we embarked on a transformative journey to deepen our understanding of mental health and strengthen our ability to support those in need. The welcome remarks from Prof. Sheila N. Flores, Alternate GC, reminded us of the power of empathy—the ability to listen without judgment and to offer support with genuine care.

Under the guidance of Satra L. Janjaman, RGC, Director of Guidance and Counseling, we engaged in interactive workshops that equipped us with essential skills in active listening, compassionate communication, and effective client interaction. These sessions encouraged us to be more patient, open-hearted, and sensitive when dealing with individuals facing mental health challenges.

This seminar was more than just a learning experience—it was 𝙖 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣. We were reminded that empathy can heal, and even the smallest act of compassion can make a profound difference in someone’s life. As Peer Facilitators, we carry the responsibility to create safe spaces where people feel heard, valued, and supported. Together, we stand committed to reducing stigma, promoting mental wellness, and building a more compassionate and inclusive community. 🌿🫂

Yesterday's event explored the vital connection between values transformation and mental well-being. It featured a powerful discussion on cultivating inner peace and purpose, delving into the transformative power of aligning our values with our lives and its profound impact on mental health. Thought-provoking insights and inspiring conversations marked a significant step toward holistic well-being.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿!

On October 23, 2024, the Basilan State College Guidance Office and Peer Group Facilitators' Organization (PGFO), under the supervision of Ms. Satra L. Janjaman, Director of Guidance and Counselling organized a mental health awareness and su***de prevention month program at the Basilan State College gym.

With its theme “Breaking the Stigma: Illuminating Hope, Empowering Minds and Saving Lives, the event saw a large turnout of students from various courses, all eager to learn and participate in the activities. The program effectively raised awareness about mental health and provided valuable resources for su***de prevention.

During the program, the PGFO also gave mini button pins to the attendees as tokens of their commitment to raising mental health awareness and preventing su***de.

A group of 22 dedicated students has been selected to assume the role of Peer Counselors at Basilan State College, operating under the supervision of the Guidance Office.

They stand prepared to commence an expedition of personal development, comprehension, and solidarity within Basilan State College — illuminating the path for their fellow students and fostering a more vibrant educational environment for all.
